Yeah, if there's anyone nearby that you could pick it up from personally, that would be the way to go.

 

There was a vote to see if we should use SBAF funds to buy it for a loaner, but I didn't assume everyone that voted yes would necessarily want to borrow it themselves. Would be happy to have you on the list.

Will get this shipped to @bazelio tomorrow or Saturday via FedEx. Warning, the package is huge and weighs around 32lbs.

@Mr.Sneis is some sort of packaging madman, and I have zero clue how it originally came packaged by now. I just threw stuff in there until the DAC was secure. Good luck!

You can insure for $499 because usually this will waive FedEx from having to inspect the packaging. Not sure about UPS. Don't even bother with USPS, please. However, if you have the spare change and feel confident in your madman packing skills, I would prefer insuring at $650 to be safe. I will leave that up to you!

@sphinxvc Let me know if instead we should have everyone donate $10 to the site for insurance purposes.


FYI, I have some sort of made-in-England Westinghouse tubes in the SFD currently, with two pairs of Russian something or other tubes packed along with it. NOTE: the extra tubes are rolled in newspaper, so don't overlook that!

SFD dropped off with FedEx and on its way to @bazelio. Shipping was $50 for the whole thing, including $499 insurance coverage and signature requirement. Please be sure you add signature requirement. @sphinxvc Remind me to donate $10 later, if you could. For everyone else, donate $10 when shipping so you don't have to worry about insurance with the shipping company. (FWIW, FedEx rates for large packages seem lower than UPS for me, for whatever reason. I paid $40 for an uninsured, much lighter, smaller package with them...)

Here's the list of individuals...could someone help me organize the order, since I know some of you are going to meet up with others on this list?

Anyone I miss? Any scheduling or mini-meets to be aware of? And FYI, even if you hear it at a mini-meet, you're totally free to loan it personally for a few days to hear it at home.

Another FYI, most screws are removed from the SFD so you only have about 8 to remove instead of a million to swap tubes, if you choose to swap tubes.

I think we should leave the list around this size and try not to add many more folks, if any. Please try to ship this on the 5th or 6th day of having it.

Whoever is last on the list, I may have you hold onto it so I can sell it. I had my fun with it at home for a while and don't need to keep it. Or, if anyone has intentions of buying, I can always put you last on the list.
