Tried them at RMAF2014 and thought they were very good. I own the MA900 and the Z7 is a better version, IMO. Always tempted to buy one, but I'm not usually the type to have lots of headphones. Most will point to distortion and say they are no good, but they are a fun relaxed headphone that will play well with modern stuff and be respectable on the better masters too.

Had Purrin's modded pair (extra damping to improve bass bloat etc), and did not like it at all. The bass is horrendously tubby, while the response overall isn't very articulate. I'd actually hate to think how worse it'd be if it wasn't dampened. Soundstage however is quite decent for a closed pair.

The light weight and exceptional build quality made me wish it had great sound. I wouldn't hesitate one bit to buy one if it did, because the build is exceptional. Most impressive looking headphones I've come across.

Nice, i have a pair that should be delivered to me in a month so wanted to hear some opinions on them, i have the akg q701 and hifman he 500, both are really good headphones for the what i use them for. I use the q701 for gaming (stopped that now) and he500 for music listening but it gets annoying to use the he500 after an hour or so as they are really heavy. I need a closed back headphone now so thought that i might as well get the mdr z7 from japan as the price is really good there.

What did u pair them with? Have you tried them on different setups to see how they fare? One more thing can you tell me where I can find a guide on modding them?

I only have one dedicated amp/dac on me, which is the Asgard2/Bifrost Uber-analogue. I always test headphones on my iMac to see if they scale relatively well, and I didn't find much a difference between the iMac and the Asgard2/Bifrost.

I'm not sure on the modding, will have to ask Purrin that.
