    If anyone has any extra of the recommended material, please let me know. I should have mentioned this at the LA meet, but I plum forgot.

    Also, any extra dynamite (or maybe just dynamat)? I think an HD650 or HD6xx might be in my future.

    Many thanks.

    @AllanMarcus dynamite is not recommended. The headphones last quite a bit longer with dynamat.

    I'm going for a more explosive headphone experience.

    I've got a roll of dynamat I'd be happy to donate some. Anyone feel free to hit me up.

    That's a generous offer to make!

    UKnians who are after some could try this pack, from Amazon, which might be faster/cheaper than shipping over the pond and running the gauntlet of customs:

    Hey all,

    So... How much of the Comfort Grip should I get to mod one set of HD800s?
    I was going to get a 2ft x 2ft piece, but I'm not sure if it's too much?

    Finally got a set of HD800s and I'm looking forward to playing around with 'em!

    Thanks for any help!

    2ft x 2ft is plenty. I think a pair of cutouts is about 11cm x 23cm with my own template, which is slightly larger than Ravi's. I'll see if I can get a .pdf of my template up by this weekend.

    Thanks!!
    If the amount needed for one set is 11cm x 23cm, then looks like I over-ordered lol.
    Got a 1.5ft by 1.5ft piece of Comfort Grip in the end.

    I guess if I have any extras I'll put them up here for anyone that wants 'em.

    @Overkill Red if you have enough for another HD800, I'd be interested. I'm sure we can work something out. Let me know once you get your mod done.

    So it seems I have enough material left to make two sets of the cutouts.
    So, enough for @AllanMarcus and someone else.

    edit: both are now spoken for

    I just got the material. Does it matter which way to cut the rug liner? By this I mean you can rotate the template over the liner such that the mouth of the template (I see the template as a PacMan :) can be in line with the liner, diagonal to it, or perpendicular to it. I don't image that would make a difference, but who the hell knows.

    Also, I realize the name is pretty much set as the SuperBAF Mod, but I propose a consideration of the "Rug-Rat Mod".

    @AllanMarcus

    I don't think anyone has made any measurements, or tests, that show one way or the other. When I did mine it like in Marv's post and tried to make both pieces as similar as possible.

    I'm prettx sure it does matter, just how it matters where exactly on the template the holes are. I don't recall if I've tried the other way, but right now the longer sides are parallel to the opening of the mouth with mine.

    How do you get the dustcover back on without creasing it? A video would be awesome. My Rub mod isn't going to well. The template sized piece of liner was way too large to fit, so I trimmed it down and I got the dust cover over it by putting the pad on first, then gently tucking the dust cover into the cup. I just can get the dust cover to lay flat though.

    I don't use the dust cover. Are you sure you printed the template to size? Mine was actually slightly too small in a few spots, so I modified it a little. Also don't cut perpendicular to the material, or else it won't fit as well. Try to cut the edges at an angle. Especially the inner angle will make a pretty significant difference on the midrange tonality. I actuallly prefer to cut away a little more, because I feel the midrange otherwise sounds like there's a slight "horn" coloration. Experimentation is key here, I know one recording engineer thought mine was still too shouty, while others here run a more shouty mod than I do. (Yes, this affects mainly the 1-2kHz "shout" region.)

    Well, the second one went much better. I was also able to get the dustcovers on better as well. Now to listen.

    @koseph_jony

    This mod does very little for the treble peak, it's more about lifting up the midrange a bit. (which might make you listen to lower volume and notice the peak less, but still).

    I would recommend EQ or changing amp/dac. See my HD800 EQ-ing thread.

    If you want to be drastic there's also a *cough* TP mod. Just search for it, it works...
