I ought to consider one of those for the lab bench given the rather large number of protected, high quality outlets on that monster.

    20170226 Bifrost MB - Gungnir MB - RN D16 ABX - small.jpg 20170226 ABX system comparison.png 20170226 EN Focusrite RN D16 - Gungnir MB - Bifrost MB - ABX - Saga - Jotunheim - HD800 - HD650.png
This is a serious system for comparing attributes of various components. It took several days but I can now correctly identify the Bifrost MB against the Gungnir MB 8 times out of 8 trials in blind mode. It isn't easy, requires a quiet space and concentration. The first few trials were humbling. Now I have completed seven sets of 8 trials with 100% successful identification.

Contrary to the popular consensus, Bifrost MB is not dead. In fact it sounds pretty damn good to my ears, especially when fed a high quality SPDIF input, of which I use either an ethernet Dante system or Singxer SU-1. If you have only heard the BiMB with its internal USB, then I contend you haven't really experienced the full capability of the BiMB. Same applies to any of the Schiit MB DACs.

In this educational process it became apparent of the absolute necessity to achieve thermal equilibrium with any device in the chain using a clock.

^^^ It could be an even closer comparison if the rumored Bifrost update is actually true...

This ABX box is definitely something we should use SBAF funds to buy. :)

Surely there will also be Gungnir Multibit upgrades down the line as well.

If you look closely you'll surely notice something phallic in there as well...

Is that a bulbous tube or are you just happy to see me...

(actually, I guess the headphone stand is a bit phallic as well. Looks like things are popping up all over the place!))

@atomicbob It looks like you forgot to add the 4 pin XLR phase reversal cable, optional of course.

This is treating me pretty well tonight!

My Modi MB and Lyr 2 into a Focal Elear on loan from Todd at TTVJ. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Elear but I have to say there are some things that it does really, really well and I am finding it extremely enjoyable on certain types of music. In fact, I seem to have lost an hour somewhere tonight, just listening and enjoying myself. When you can just sit back with your setup and forget that the rest of the world exists for a few minutes then you know you've hit on something good.

Good catch! Give that man a Zana Deux! Bet you find the Polarity Reversal Cable helpful when you evaluate different driver tubes.

Pardon my ignorance, can the phase reversal cable be used with a single ended output like the Zana Deux?

EDIT: I suppose it should work, just like having the wiring backwards on the headphone side. I'm still waiting on mine....should have built my own.

It will work with a TRS to 4-pin XLR adapter. I use it with my Zana Deux SE.

Here is one way to do it. Cut the headphone cable approx. 6 to 12 inches from the TRS connector. Wire a Neutrik 4-pin female to the TRS connector side. Wire a Neutrix 4-pin male to the headphone side. Now make a 4-pin male to 4-pin female cable with the right side reversed. I prefer Canare L-4E6S cable. This preserves usage of the headphone with systems not having polarity reversal at meets by removing the short adapter cable.

How do you find the string instruments are with that setup? I know out of my chain initially, violins and the likes sounded 'tinny' and 'hollow' for lack of better descriptions with the Elears.

I still want to try the Elear even though I pretty much know I'm going to be disappointed. Maybe an Amazon order is in...ehh...order.

Another question Bob, have you tried replacing any fuses in your gear? I've been reading the Zana Deux thread and this has come up a couple times with the Synergistic Research Red Slow Blow Fuse being the prime example. I'm wondering if there is any merit as those who are using them say it is more apparent than tube rolling the driver tube.

I'm not Bob, but I can state that from my experience either fuses will 'help' or they won't.
In my case they do make changes, some brands of fuses are 'better' others not so much.

In most cases they can be returned for credit if they don't 'help'.

The SRQ fuses are what I have 'standardized' upon in either the original flavor or the red.
I haven't tried the blacks, that's just way to crazy money for a fuse, even for me. :)

IOW only you can determine if they 'help' or not.
But I'm betting you won't return them, just based upon my experience and that of others who have ventured down this rabbit hole of audiophoolishness.
