Schiit Yggdrasil images like a champ, and throws a big wide/tall/deep soundstage as well. This is one of its greatest strengths with speakers at least in my opinion over other DACs including Gungnir Multibit - it’s a lot larger and deeper and more precise than Gungnir Multibit.

Dude at this level practically nothing offers "much" over their competitors unless they really suck

I have not heard one that competes with it sorry. I would read the full thread that I linked to you before - the very first page has the links to all the DACs he compared.

Edit: What the guy above said ^

Considering you are probably plugging the other end into a 99 cent wall socket, probably no big deal. Then again, everything matters, so the best solution would be eliminating the extra connection. It should be far less audible or inaudible than using an analog adapter like I do on my desktop dac to feed rca outs to 1/4 inch cables to powered speakers, haha.

Went ahead with a different cable with the proper connection.

Can anyone with experience modding amps give an opinion on the used pre amp listed for $290?

    https://mjolnir-audio.com/used-amplifiers/

It's based on this $117 Chinese preamp but upgraded with the stuff he mentions in the listing

    https://m.aliexpress.com/item/20448...ject=imtate-Mark-JC-2-preamp-finished-product

Probably gonna be upgrading my source from a topping D50 to Gungnir Multibit and will need a preamp and am hoping to get decent value without having to wait around for a used saga to pop up.

Found a cheap second hand 2016 Yggdrasil which is a lot cheaper than getting new Gungnir Multibit in my country. (around 1450usd)

How is it compare to A2 Gungnir? from my recent lurk they share the same traits but there is no post about Yggdrasil recently. Really want to grab this thing but I am still worry about its tonity since Gungnir A2 might fit my preference better (from my reading)

I own both, and although there is an attractive tonality and density through the midband with Gungnir Multibit A2, Yggdrasil A2 dominates it in every other way. If you can afford it, buy it before it disappears. Worst case, you decide you don’t like it and sell it for around the same price and pick up Gungnir Multibit for little/no loss. But I doubt it you will want to do that - once you go Yggdrasil it’s hard to go back.

Edit: I should point out that I have no experience with Yggdrasil A1, but still I see little risk here. And this is about as good a deal I see for Yggdrasil A1 around my parts at least.

Personally I’d wait for the used Saga, though by all accounts Spritzer is a very competent modder and builder. Price is about what a used Saga would cost.

Yeah I've seen sagas go for less. He was saying that the high output impedance of the saga could affect sound, but based on the input impedance of vidar (22k) and the output of the saga (180) that shouldn't be an issue right?

On the other hand I have very little patience, but that preamp only has 24 steps which kinda takes away from its functionality so I'll wait.

Hello there, long time lurker here. Well, everything is in the title; I bought the D30 and A30 combo on Massdrop a few months ago after seeing Amir's test and was impressed by his results, so I gave it a shot. I am quite new to the hobby, so it was pretty much my first time getting something better than the good ol 3.5mm jack from my PC. I expected to be blown away, but I wasn't.

Anyways, I don't feel like I am getting the most out of my HD6XX, so I am looking to get something better that hopefully won't cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks in advance for the help.

Since you're new here, you might not be aware that Amir is not well regarded on this site. He's an objectivist who isn't good at measurements.

Oh damn, I thought I posted a thread, please disregard the ''everything is in the title", hahaha.

Yeah, I was aware about that, it is actually the reason I created an account here, because I blindfoldly followed some stranger's advice, and ended up paying for a mediocre overpriced product.

Since I live in Canada and the exchange rate is awful, I would be looking for a DAC for about 100-200$. I know that at that price point it might not be worth it, but I am willing to give it a shot.

Can anyone compare the THX 789 to Bryston BHA-1?

    Paging @Psalmanazar

I think he listened longer than I did at the last mini-meet, and wrote a lot more, though in other threads. The BHA-1 has better low-level details, more resolution. In a recent PM, some persons actually described the THX as "bright". I thought it more do with "there's details in the brightness of the BHA-1". Kind of like there's more reward there, rather than just brightness.
