Depends on your sub inputs, but you can generally use one of the preamp outputs (marked as “SE out”) to the “line in” on the sub. Or if your sub has “high level” connections, you can connect it from the speaker outputs.

This is also solid dating advice.

You can also use some small pieces of tape to mark off the proper orientation (that would not be solid dating advice)

Looking for a good closed back for office use (I work in an open floorplan).
To give an idea of my preferences, at home I have the HD650 and HD800S with the Bottlehead Mainline. Even though I built the Mainline for the HD800S, it entirely transformed the HD650 for me I'm actually finding myself listening to them more now. (Basically I'm flexible with my preferences, but may lean towards the darker HD650).

I have an Aeolus on the way and have considered ZMF Eikon or Atticus, but can't justify those for office use.
After much research, my shortlist is
    1) Shure 1540
    2) Beyer DT1770
    3) Beyer DT150

I like that the Beyers are 250ohm, which means I could pair them with an OTL.
Would appreciate input on choosing between these 3 headphones.
    Thanks!

Had that happen in Freya as well and just make sure you line things up right.

Makes me wonder if the sockets Schiit uses are extra tight or something.

Seems to be just ... more likely to happen when the socket is on the floor of the chassis and you have no real way to grip, I guess we all get impatient and rock them a whole lot more.

I had a Rag + LS50 + Sub setup for a while, and it’s a nice combo. The Rag is plenty of power for the LS50s, and the preamp outs work if your sub has RCA inputs.

This is kinda wonky, but anyone have any experience with the j-phonic K2 SP iems? Been looking at these for a while and just heard from one of their reps that they will ship to the USA. All the reviews are from 6-7 years ago. Supposedly supremely neutral.

Which headphones to try next? Will be paired with an SPL Phonitor 2.

Headphones that I like or at least tolerate:
    Hifiman Sundara
AKG K702 (a bit bright, but doesn't bother me that much - not that detailed though)
AKG K812 (not really much better than K702's, warmer tone overall - but much more expensive)

    Headphones that I don't like
Sennheiser HD650 (Dark, muddy, grainy - the ones tested were manufactured in 2010, are the newer ones different?)
Beyerdynamic T1 2nd Gen (dark, slightly muddy, not really much better than Sundaras IMO)
Audeze LCD-2 (very dark, not very resolving IMO)

I am thinking of trying a pair of Sennheiser HD800s' or maybe Hifiman Edition X v2's. I've never heard anything from Focal, how do they sound? A pair of Clear's would be within budget.

Riva Festival. Sounds great in the garage/shop. Thought I'd share.

@Collusion I think the 800 would be a Headphone that you enjoy even though it has the now infamous 6k treble peek the HeX is more neutral in its Frequenzy Curve but not quite as resolving as the hd800 a bit like the sundara but more resolving. The Focal Clear has the smallest soundstage but more slam then the other headpones might be an option.

What Amp would you be running them on?

EDIT: Have forgotten to write about the Clear.

It should be noted not everyone has a problem with the HD800 treble. I've been using it bone stock for years without a problem. Same for someone I know who just bought a pair and alot of others. It's going to be a personal thing. They are insanely resolving and really cannot be beat for classical (though I love them with any genre). And at $700-750 for a used pair they remain one of the best deals in this hobby, especially considering the insane pricing of other TOTL cans that have infected the hobby. Amp pairing is crucial though. Definitely worth considering.

I've been looking at them for the workshop, the problem is speakers usually don't like airborn iron oxide dust ...

Yeah, that would be a challenge. I was thinking mesh enclosure, but that's probably putting off the inevitable.

Going off @Elnrik's idea, could you build a metal cage around it with a strong electromagnetic field to pull the dust out of the air?

I mean, i could, or i could just buy Yamaha outdoors weatherproof speakers ... sound quality is not really paramount while forging, it's mainly the convenience of the software that pulled me.

Big disclaimer, headstage is pretty low on my list of priorities, but I've come to greatly prefer the stage of the Clear over my 800S despite it being somewhat smaller because it feels more layered and precisely placed. Everything feels more on a continuum rather than all in the distance like it is with the 800S. I can't guarantee that the absolute stage size for the Clear with other amps would be to your liking, since Af has this stage exaggeration effect, but I find it adequate.

Tonality I find the Clear far superior, but if you prefer the flatter bass presentation that the k702 has over the 650 then you should look at the Elex instead.

If you can tolerate a sundara on a phonitor you can probably put up with any kind of treble fuckery tbh.

Good thing about focals is they have very deep brick & mortar penetration, so it's relatively easy to go audition one, or get an audition at home with one.

This is important as their headband design doesn't work for everyone, it'll either be butter or immediately painful.

Also personally I don't understand how people listen to the hd800 at all. Great technicalities and a very wide (but not very deep) stage, but timbre and tonality are so messed up. Stage proportions and timbre/tonality are priority 1 to me. Let alone the treble cup resonance, not being treble sensitive doesn't make a design fault go away.

It's like watching a movie on a 4k screen with awful color balance and the sharpening turned all the way up, and the image manually set to 21:9 for a 16:9 video, and there's a 2cm purple horizontal line across the screen.

It's almost like there's no such thing as a perfect headphone.
