Did you place this order before or after the first time you got this answer in the other thread?

Gen 5 is not a single product. It’s actually five products with two physically different boards—one specifically for Yggdrasil, and one for Gungnir and Bifrost. Each must be programmed with firmware specific to the product (Bifrost, Bifrost Multibit, Gungnir, Gungnir Multibit, Yggdrasil.)

I guess before because I haven't seen any other thread-I was asked by the moderators to move this here. My very first post! Nice to meet you though… You seem nice!

Thanks Jason - That's exactly what I needed to know. I think if I go to the trouble of sending it in I'm gonna just go ahead and get the unison upgrade. Because why not.

It does give you the advantage of two years of warranty, whereas the original warranty was non-transferable. So there is that.

That's a terrific consideration. Gracias Senor. I heard back from Daniel Katz at Schiit this evening (Saturday!) with the following. I think once I pay this hi-fi extravagance down I'll go ahead and get the USB fixed by them. A month ago I had never heard of this technology – Roon Audio… Raspberry Pi…. I just needed to put a decent Hifi in my front room to just sort of reconnect with my dad… Who passed away 20 years ago this year. I came into a nice record collection of his – have been working my way through our Art Blakey and the Jazz messengers, John Coltrane… SuperSax..... The slow down up here seemed like a good time to put a record player and some decent hi-fi equipment in. I've been mixing engineer, video editor on and off my whole career… So when I heard the imaging from a really decent DAC… I was totally sold. I have some very smart friends who exposed me to some really good stuff. What's amazing to me is a decent set of subscriptions, Roon and a good DAC And you really need almost nothing else…

    Hi Matt,

The Unison USB upgrade is WAY better than the Gen 5 - there really is no comparison. It basically eliminates nearly all USB noise and makes for a much clearer signal. Send it back for an upgrade and hopefully that will fix the issues you are having.

    Best,

Occasionally you can find a used set of Andromedas near your price which would blow the doors off the choices that you listed. And it would pair very well from your iphone. Plus ultraportable and good passive isolation. Just a thought.

I don't think he is looking for a pair of IEMs. He wanted a closed headphone.

I have a pair of Oppo PM-3 closed back headphones that I had purchased new to use at work. They have about 10 hours on them. I had them listed with some other gear I was selling, but nobody seemed interested, and I haven't bothered to list them on Head-Fi yet. I'll sell them for $200 and I'll cover the PayPal fees and CONUS shipping. Let me know if that interests you.

Of course you are right. It will come down to the type and occasion for your own portable listening needs. I've not been able to do any better for sound quality and portability than the Andro on an iphone. But this wouldn't work for working out/gym use etc.

I don't have personal experience with it, but wanted to flag that the H200 might fit the bill if one doesn't mind getting an older integrated model: https://www.hegel.com/products/discontinued/h200. I do have some experience with its bigger brother the H20 from an in-home dealer demo (writeup here).

One can find these slightly older Hegel models for pretty cheap nowadays.
    FYI @Melvillian

For portable use I'd avoid the Fostex for a couple of reasons: they're quite fragile, both at the gimbals and in terms of potentially scratching the cups; also, depending on your head size, they don't clamp very firmly. No cartwheeling, alas.

Perhaps you might keep an eye out for the Elegia, which occasionally comes up for sale for $429 on Adorama (although be warned, I don't know if Adorama is an authorized dealer - check the warranty if you see the sale)?

Schiit has Eitr b-stock for $99. That would solve it.

What are some higher end pure SS amps that someone should do research on? Was thinking about maybe down the road get something to competent my Starlett by Bifrost 2 XLR output to SS amp and use RCA out to Starlett. Not too sure, but just curious on higher end SS amps like the Bryston BHA-1.
