If it's a return that was never opened, but the box damaged in shipping or handling, they can't sell it as new. So you might have just scored a brand new one!

Either that or when they finish the refurbish they put the plastic around the drivers and all that. Either way, a good refurb from a reputable company should work just as well as a brand new one.

Glad you're liking them! They consistently impress me. I use them at work and around the neighborhood and will be using them on trips and such, and I find it's almost too easy to get lost in music with them.

 

Maybe there should be a different topic for euro-zone deals? It's a chore to go through all the us deals, imo.

Just perusing Massdrop and saw they are offering the Aune X1S. I also saw Candy from Aune posting that Massdrop wasn't authorized to sell this DAC/amp, and Aune is refusing warranty on purchases made through MD.

Just a heads up if anyone was considering it. Also, WTF Massdrop? WTF Aune as well, I suppose.

 

I think that also happened with Chord when Massdrop sold the Mojo. I don't understand how that happens

 

If the manufacturer isn't going to honor their warranty for purchases through Massdrop, Massdrop should disclose that on the sale page.

 

I suspect what is happening is this:

These companies are dealer model based. Massdrop comes in, buys a product at or close to at dealer price, and then offers the product with significantly less then typical dealer margin. The companies are protecting their dealers.

 

Yup this is pretty much whats going on. Although massdrop won't buy from Aune directly. Massdrop will buy from a dealer in bulk. Lower risk and higher quantity means the dealer will lower their price so massdrop passes some savings on.

However the manufacturer still require all dealers to sell at msrp, so they aren't happy with this discount.
