The Funny/LOL Thread

I visit your URL and the first thing I see is director, Peter Jackson. WTF?

I will always be in his debt for DEAD ALIVE (I'll never look at lawnmowers the same way after that). But extinct birds?

 

Using live ones for a movie would probably be cheaper than persuading Andy Serkis to dress up in a big bird costume.

DEAD ALIVE - BRAINDEAD outside North America - was great, but I always found BAD TASTE the funniest of his early movies (not least because the aliens looked like a much-unloved recent NZ Prime Minister).

 

BAD TASTE looks like it's in exceedingly bad taste, thus totally worth watching.

I have much affection for these whacked-out regional comedies that illustrate some peculiar part of the globe. Other examples (series, not movies--but same/same):

• TRAILER PARK BOYS: Hysterical sendup of a dead-end Canadian locale and citizens.

• FAWLTY TOWERS: Hysterical sendup of a marriage in which a very smart woman easily outwits her half-wit husband who presumes he's smarter than her (and everyone else)
• SANFORD & SON: I haven't seen the British series this was based on, but transplanting it to L.A. is a brilliant idea. Everybody in this thing is at the top of their game.

 

I loved Farty Towels, aka Flowery Twats. They had the wisdom of limiting it to 12 episodes and thereby keeping the quality pretty high.

My favorite scene is this one ("hanging gardens of Babylon"):

 

Fawlty Towers is a hysterical sendup of a manipulative bully. With the added bonus of everyone in the series being hilarious. Beautifully written and flawlessly performed.
