Our relationship with HF is not necessarily adversarial, nor is HF a worthy competitor.

Regrettably, Jude foolhardily persists in regarding our independent fellowship as an enemy, denying his site's viewers direct access to some of the most useful knowledge in our common audio hobby. Certain corporate sponsors game that website, and its owner makes their interests his interests against your interests. It doesn't have to be that way.

But we don't have to care. The average pyrate will have higher sonic standards and more useful experience than most ostensibly knowledgeable Head-Fiers. When you come here, you're playing in a different league than what you're used to. So step up your game by making an effort to learn more. We're willing to help you, just as we help one another.

The irony is that SBAF users consistently trash HF, making HF more likely to delete all posts that mention SBAF.

Which makes SBAF trash HF more.

Which makes Amos delete more posts.

    It's a self-sabotaging positive feedback loop.

I can't help myself but to always be reminded of the SNL skit about parliamentary debate when heated debate breaks out on forums:
Will Ferrell as some MP screaming, "But is not Oasis the greatest British band since the Beatles? Can we not vote on this!?"

And now, a semi-relevant personal anecdote -or- a great basis upon which to make scientific claims:
When I left a certain highly-proscribed and dogmatic religious organization, it took a while to shake off how very disillusioned I was about having a bunch of highly-proscribed and dogmatic shit jammed down my throat for years. I needed to vent, and it actually helped me to vent about it as I transitioned into membership in a different less-proscribed and less-dogmatic religious organization. Not everyone needs this, but some do. That is kind of what this thread has become, and its useful for that. Let it remain useful for that.

That said, not everyone that leaves a highly-proscribed and dogmatic group is going to instantly fit in somewhere else. Exempli Gratia: The conversation in the zotl thread was totally valid. I read that and did -not- get cancer, but was mildly sickened. I thought OP was joking or lightly trolling at first. Its ok for new members to be excited about shit, but it is equally ok for experienced friends to question intent and call people on possibly making shitty decisions for, at times, inexplicable reasons. Those conversations are what make this place helpful for actual people.

I really dont think anyone here who has been around for a while cares that mentions to SuperBAF are deleted on HF. The people who care the most are the posters on HF who weren't aware of the rule. What happens is these HF members end up here and post about what happened.

I've said this before. I really don't care for this thread. Mainly because it defines SuperBAF in relation to HF, and I don't see much relation at this point. We do our own thing and they do theirs.

But I've kept it around for a few reasons. The first is to let Jude knows we know whenever he's f'ing around in our business. (And this has happened in the past.) We made those digital skull T-shirts at the Wikia meet to send him a message. No need for me to light a fire against the mods at HF at this point. My spies tell me he hasn't been interfering. If you guys may have noticed, I haven't crapped on Jude lately.

The other reason is that I feel it's a good thing to allow people to vent. I don't think it's right to take away people's right to vent by deleting this thread. And this is coming from someone with no morals too.

One of the things I've been concerned about is blatant shilling. Call me paranoid, but for better or worse, this site is on the radar now. Two pieces of gear which I have had concerns about: Elise and MicroOTL.

Typically, this has never been an issue because new gear has always been brought up by members who we know well. And I not saying these two amps are bad. We simply don't have trusted opinions of them. But of lot of red flags went off in my head with the way they were talked about by the people who brought them up and they way they have been talked about on HF.

The MicroOTL discussion I had with @richard51 had to be done despite the mess it left. Lots of people are new here and I don't know who they are. Many of us have been in the same situation where we started off in the hobby; and became obsessed with some piece of gear because of rave reviews, long threads extolling its virtues, and fancy marketing. Only to purchase such piece of gear and go "meh". I for one can tell you that I wished there was someone to knock some sense into me when I did the same things as @richard51, buying into the drivel of "revolutionary new approaches to tube output coupling" and "designed by a physicist".

Perhaps the holier than thou @gbeast didn't bother to see how @richard51 at the end of the discussion was appreciative of us getting him to re-think his priorities. Perhaps @gbeast didn't appreciate the school of hard knocks method; but to me, it would have been NOT VIRTUOUS and IMMORAL to give @richard51 a pat on the back and confirm exactly what he wanted to hear. Besides, I first had to ascertain that he wasn't a shill or a troll.

As far as the posting of FedEx tracking information on forums: I'm sorry @gbeast, but I would have to disagree with you. Part of it is sharing excitement, but most of it is narcissistic self-absorbed nonsense not much different from people who I know post their marriage proposals on Facebook. No one here cares about stuff like that. People posting FedEx tracking information on a forum not related to parcel shipping is a huge indicator that the forum has failed.

Finally, my "f**k you" reply was not because I took what you said personally, but rather because I took your statements as shitting on the members here. It's what @aufmerksam said in his post: almost everyone here came from HF and people lament what HF has become. I think everyone here wants HF to be much better than it currently is. I see the references to MusicAlchemist or people posting their FedEx tracking information, less as shitting on those individuals than as a criticisms on how the owners and moderators of HF have allowed HF to become. At this point, I think even Tyll's "Town-Hall" analogy gives HF too much credit. It's just a mess there in the sense that it is no longer a personal audio site.

My advice to you @gbeast is that before you go on the holier-than-thou morality shit, maybe get a better understanding of the situation or add 68 points to your Wisdom attribute. Maybe ask yourself exactly what you have contributed here. I don't think you even understand how much of themselves the members have given to this forum. We are talking about money, time, gear, knowledge, expertise, relationships, and much more. And this is something that I deeply appreciate and why I'll defend our shit as less smelly than your shit or HF's shit to the end.

BTW, as far the designed by "physicist" or "PhD" marketing spiels: the best sounding and best designed gear tends to come from people with only high-school degrees or degrees from modest universities. Not from dudes from Harvard or Oxford.

I don't know why this is, but I suspect it's because people with these kinds of backgrounds tend to work with their hands more and make shit, rather than "theorize" about shit. This is also why I tend to have an anti-academic bent regarding audio, e.g. : "Target curves are a game of dicksmanship."

This is the big elephant in the room that everyone should think about:

Has anyone asked Amos or Jude to explain why the necessity to remove all links and references to SBAF/Changstar? Why is SBAF "illegal" in any way? Why the "special" treatment?

You can mention/link SBAF in ANY other audio related forums and you won't get banned/deleted.

And just for laughs/example(surely I won't get banned here for this):

Here's a link to a superb audiophile site:

Mainly cuz those of us who have been around for a while only visit HF for amusement purposes, or to check the classifieds. The SNR there is ridiculous at this point, where I can't even peruse any thread for more than a minute or two, before realizing everything's been run over by newbs, who are rehashing the same circular arguments for the past decade or so. I guess that just means the hobby is expanding, but I can't glean anything useful over there anymore, and would only recommend that place to an absolute audio fetus, or my worst enemy. That's it.

I am sad to announce that I hereby ban @Madaboutaudio. The bad news is that I don't have the power to do that. But sometimes it only takes one to start revolution, dammit! Ok, I'll leave now.

It boils down to us not being very well liked. Jude says "f**k you Marv, and f**k your forum too". Jude sees Merv and his band of separatists as a terrorist organization, striking well into HF terriotry, and using it as a platform to promote his own Confederacy of Pirates. I'm sure Jude and Amos thought they could somehow halt the growth of Changstar by making it a bad word. Of course that doesn't work. Most noobs are going to see the man behind the certain at HF, and naturally look to another outlet for audio discussion. Evidence of Chang/SBAF's rapid growth of late makes a good case for that.

Oh I doubt we will ever get big since most of us are chaotic neutral (tending toward good). @gbeast is like lawful good. Level 2 Paladin with limited powers of inspiration. HF is like lawful evil. @CEE TEE is like neutral good, which is really like the goodest of the good.

Oh yeah +5 to INT for all SuperBAF folks.

I don't think Jude's class is audiophile. He's really a level 78 Illusionist/Mage. Extremely powerful. Only together do we stand a chance.
