I can't help thinking there's a story there, beyond the fact that he's incredibly boring and confused. Do tell?

I feel bad. When I run across a deal that the headfi crowd would like, I post it over there. Even if its for a headphone that isn't an actually good headphone. I like helping but I also realize... its not really helping.

No no don't ever feel down for reminding people of good-priced deals, @imackler !
If I live in the US, your frequent findings will be one of the major contributor of my careless spending. I'm sure of it.

He's the guy behind the christmass tree. I think it's mentioned, with pictures also, in the Feliks Elise thread.

    That's classic HF right there:

Apparently, stopping someone who likes to dickwave about how much he spends on things he doesn't understand from persuading other suggestible folks from doing the same remains just as unacceptable at HF as it ever was*. Thread locked!

There are some good folks still on HF, and I feel bad when they're gulled into wasting their hard-earned money like that.

    * Ouch, that's quite the run-on sentence. I haven't had enough coffee to be able to fix it yet, sorry.

Oh, wow. That one got a little ugly, as I recall. I may have to revisit it.

HF, where you can list an Elear in the FS thread for more than it's currently selling for new, because you believe it's worth more. No point in linking to the FS thread... various people have called the seller out and the mods just erased the comments. I'm all for people selling their gear to fund a new purchase, but buyers definitely need to be aware of MSRP/deals and availability of gear too.

What really got me about that listing is the sellers attitude. Stating his price was based on the availability of the headphone.

I will admit that I do still visit Head-Fi more regularly than I realised- but I've noticed that it's mostly to try and stop new/confused people from being talked into buying tons of crap that won't help them.

Obviously, because HF runs on sponsor money, people being content with their gear is anathema to them- in an ideal would, readers would be in a constant state of sidegrade nervosa. Telling people that gear X is overrated or bad, or that gear Y won't actually be the massive improvement that someone's hoping for is frowned upon. As a result I find that I'm answering a fair few questions after being PMed by very polite but nervous newbies.

Being able to solve a problem for someone without them having to spend much/any money always feels like a victory- especially when it ends up with them happy and enjoying their music.

Eh, Judith could dance around that one with relative ease. He can tighten stuff up so that he accepts the money, his "trusted reviewers" who he doesn't employ are given most of the free stuff, to write glowing "reviews"- he just deletes any criticism, and feigns shock at the doings of all those independent third parties if anyone ever calls them on it.

Also, most of the "reviewers" already put a tiny note to the effect that they received the gear for free..

(Not that I am morally opposed to people getting sent stuff to review, it'd just be nice if more of them managed to do more than write puff pieces...)

And I don't think I've been back there since I posted that, even though the new Schiit amps have slightly rekindled my interest in the company.

Well, it's all kicking off in the Chord Dave thread on HF. The usual heavy-handed moderating, but this time they've gone too far & prevented someone from defending their business & character following some pretty shitty attacks. I've gotten myself locked out of the thread by trying to defend him. Classy lot over there.

"Prevented someone from defending their business"? I'm confused, were they not a sponsor?

that perfectly sums up miniMan's HF censorship strategy.

Yeah, there was some second hand smut posted about Vincent from TotalDAC and when he posted to defend himself he was "moderated", whilst the original post was left untouched. I was locked out of the thread for suggesting he should be allowed to defend himself...oh, and then I re-posted his original response that the mods had deleted earlier :p.

The threads for the Chord stuff seem to be full of the most fanatical kool-aid drinkers who love to run to the mods if anyone disagrees, it's not pretty. I particularly like that xRELICx guy, who likes to brag about his "experience as an audiophile". He basically sweats kool-aid, like an advert in human form.

So true, and sadly many such threads go the same way. The Abyss thread is at least populated by vaguely open-minded people, but it's in the minority.
