Ahhh that explains it. Lucky for me I don't have to worry about a warranty with my T1. Also i don't feel comfortable doing the mods myself so finding someone would be awesome but again I have no idea who to take it to.

I actually kinda solved my issue to an extent. I was running the T1 directly off my MHDT Lab Pagoda DAC. This DAC is claimed to provide 3v output. I started thinking about adding more voltage to the input of the T1 so i installed my Wyred4Sound W4S STP-SE Preamp. This can output up to 9v variable. So I plugged this between the DAC and T1, set the T1 to max gain and fired it up. It is without a doubt louder now. SQ wise these ears can't hear a difference but it gets a good amount louder and remains clean. Amp still starts to break up a bit eventually if I push the gain higher but it is actually good enough now.

I'd love to find someone that works on Stax amps and pay them to do the mods on my T1. In the meantime I am going to pick up another Stax amp to play around with.

Been chatting with Spritzer, a nice guy and informative. I've decided to purchase one of his amps. I'm going to keep the T1 for now and after A/Bing them I will sell the T1. I just want to get my thoughts down on both before selling. I'm not buying one of his high-end units but I'm still excited.

Apologies is this can be answered by a quick search ... If so please point me in the right direction. An opportunity is presenting itself to buy L700 (original) and SRM-353X with very low usage hours, but I won't be able to audition. Anyone here that could put the performance in perspective of HD800 and top notch SS amp?

Even though Head-Case isn't exactly friendly, Spritzer seems to know what he's doing.

    @Scubadude :

L7: Deeper and more punchy lower end; lower end slightly more defined in areas where both headphones play (less one-notey); Warmer and fuller but not lush mids

H800: Upper treble more piercing and etched in places; slightly faster decay; Thinner bass & mids makes it more precise, more open, more treble-forward, and gives it better imaging.

IMO, L7 versus H800 on a SS: Use the L7 to listen to music, use the HD800 to analyse it. Put the HD800 on a very good tube amp, I would take the HD800.

Note I havent heard the SRM-353X, it seems to be lower end, your bass performance may vary.

Spritzer makes great amps, mostly with Gilmore designs I understand. Every Mjolnir amp I've heard bests my Stax gear and retains resale value.

You NEED to buy the Megatron V2 though, which I am renaming the Metatron because that's a much cooler name and is a celestial being and not a toy robot from hasbro. :)

Neither. SR-Omega or, if you can't find that, SR-007 MK1.

ok, but among those 2, which one do you consider best?
What is the best amp for those headphones.

    Thanks again for the help.

I am not a hifi expert and therefore I still have a lot to learn.

While I won't quote the shit question you had asked me via PM (that was between you and me), I knew it was a matter of time before you start shitposting again.

I would've agreed with you had I not heard the latest SR-007MK2. The SR-007MK2 I had heard before 2014 was too colored (like how many badly tuned Japanese headphones sound) and not as preferable as the discontinued SR-007MK1 or SR-Omega. I'm not sure when the revision was implemented, but the latest SR-007MK2 is a lot better than any other incarnation of 007 or Omega. Its highs are not as mellow as those of the SR-007MK1 but doesn't go into the unbearably bright territory of SR-009, while having the best bass extension of all the electrostats I've heard.

As stated above, I consider the latest SR-007MK2 the best. And it's not OOP like the 007MK1 or the Omega is.

KGSSHV Carbon if you are aiming for ultimate technicalities (transparency, soundstage, etc.).
BHSE if you prefer a slightly sweeter, more intimate sound (contrary to popular belief, I don't consider BHSE to be a wire-with-gain amp).

I slightly lean toward the Carbon, but YMMV. Note that I have not heard other electrostatic amps often hailed as TOTL (e.g. T2, Grand Cayman, Megatron, Electra, LL2), all I can say is avoid the Woo WES like the plague.

What is the difference between KGSSHV Carbon and KGSSHV Carbon CC?

KGSSHV Carbon by whom is it produced? Mjolnir Audio?

Carbon CC (certified crazy) is the cost-no-object version of Carbon, including Golden Reference power supply and silver wiring. I've not heard the Carbon CC but Carbon was already excellent.

There are other DIYers who build their own custom Carbon, but Mjolnir Audio is AFAIK the only place that produces them in large batches and can provide a constant supply of it. I got mine from there too.

This is really interesting to hear. On this latest iteration of the SR-007MK2, do you feel that it still benefits from the port mod?

    Yes, according to Mjolnir Audio.

While there is a slight improvement in bass extension with the port mod, the difference is not night-and-day as some people claim. IMO, YMMV.

Port modding isn't really difficult (the most annoying part being putting the earpads back on), but if you are one of those people scared of modding headphones, I say don't bother. There's no real FOMO.
