    If you already have a preamp in the chain and presuming the pot issue is limited to scratches when changing volume rather than dropouts or imbalance, just leave the MCTH knob at unity (1.30 pm) or wherever you think it sounds good and control volume with the preamp instead.

    Or rather than spending on a new pot, for $49 add a Schiit Sys - reportedly very transparent, and provides a second set of inputs or outputs for another component you might add in the future.
