I thought this thread might be fun. Anything related to Tidal even remotely or anything Tidal members want to discuss or whatever.

Check your monthly statements, I got changed from Hifi to Hifi Family without any notification. Went from doing $20 a month to $30 a month and didn't notice till 6 months later.

Scummy as shit, I instantly canceled my subscription when I realized happened.

I don’t have access to my computer right now so I decided to subscribe to a streaming service even though I’d prefer owning my own music.

I got free subscriptions to every music streaming service I was remotely interested in and Tidal was my favorite.

    1. Apple Music
    2. Amazon Music unlimited
    3. Spotify
    4. Napster (formerly Rhapsody) (and the first music streaming service by the way which is why I gave them a try plus they give the most to artists of any service.
    5. Google play music
    6. YouTube music premium (it’s free with google play music)
    7. Pandora
    8. LiveXLive (like Pandora-radio stations based off an artist or genre

Liked the UI of Tidal the best by far. Apple Music is my least favorite you can’t even add artists to your catalog you have to add their albums one by one. Just to name one thing. Bleh.
Only thing I don’t like about the Tidal UI is the fucking hippidy hop on my homepage. My homepage should be customized to stuff for me.

I love the “similar artists” and “influencers” sections found at the bottom of many artists pages. They’re actually pretty good I’ve actually discovered music this way. A lot of crap too though. But better than expected.

I don’t have the HIFI subscription I don’t think 360 vs anything higher is audible and whatever is audible isn’t something anyone should care about given the shitty transducers we’re all playing the music through. Still, if it was 15$ a month I’d bite.

    That’s the positive

I'd be really interested if anyone has found a way to organize tidal albums through a third party app. I love folders... what can I say?

Just chiming in that Google Play Music is on its way out and YT Music (which I have as a matter of convenience and because I spend way too much time on YouTube— SQ isn't as much of a priority on my phone) is going to replace it completely. Not sure about timeframe.

Sorry for the poke, but curious to get your input on how they rank in terms of SQ, @rhythmdevils. Not a level comparison since some don't offer lossless, but curious.

I had it for 4 months when they had that special promotion (4 months for $4). Sound quality was excellent at the lossless tier. Audibly better than music I purchased from ITunes in AAC format.

I liked the UI and playlists. They really helped me discover new music rather then just listen to my usual go to tracks.

Did not like them pushing the MQA scheme. Yuck.

Finally, decided not to renew after the promotion expired. Call me cheap but $20 a month seems expensive. If they ever have a significant discount for a yearly subscription, I may go back.

    You’re cheap.

$20 a month is expensive for an almost unlimited lossless music library? Seriously?

How the fuck are artists supposed to survive these days with attitudes like this? $20 a month is a bargain of the highest order. We are spoiled beyond belief with these streaming services and these prices. In the past, I’ve spent more on music in a single month, than on a year of Tidal, and I’ve been able to listen to way more music with Tidal.

Honestly I feel guilty only paying $20 a month for this.

@bboris77 I call you cheap. Also, Best Buy has a $120 yearly subscription if you want it for half price.

Yeah this is sad. The radio stations on google play music are by far the best. But that’s for another thread... :). Time frame is “this year”. They’re doing it slowly, slowly updating the YouTube app to have more and more google play music features.

as far as sound quality I’ve never A/Bed or thought about it much but I have had the distinct impression on multiple occasions that Amazon sounded worse. But since I use Tidal I don’t care enough to try to A/B. I suspect they’re the same.
Although that gut reaction is usually right for me...

I have Tidal bundled with my (Sprint) phone and Amazon Prime. I plan on shit canning all three when my contract is up. Time to stop nourishing our enemies.

I really like Audirvana as a player for Tidal.

I have a friend who canceled and was still billed an extra month after canceling. He tried getting in contact with tidal without luck. He had to make a stink about it on social media before he got a refund. Sure my hifi family plan might have been a mistake but tidal seems to make a lot of mistakes with people's money.

Your of course correct. Most musical consumers, who more likely than not have $150 a month cable TV bills, $200 a month cell phone service bills, and car payments several times what their income should allow, are unwilling to pay more than a few dollars a year for music. Heck, most of them want it "free". It tells you the real value they place on it.

Fact is we deserve low bit rate mp3/AAC whatever and music made on laptops in bedrooms by low talent hacks because that is all we are willing to pay for...

I’m not a Tidal fanboy or defender I haven’t gotten to the negative yet. Lots of problems with Tidal right now. It’s just buggy and their customer service sucks. Not a conspiracy.

Not a fan of the UI. It has 1 major flaw that bugs me. When I queue up songs and I end up miss clicking a song and it plays it infuriates me when it clears my whole queue. Why allow me to destroy my queue when I want to discover new music?

Anyways it sounds good and some of the music has a huge bitrate with no visual constancy. Recently got the family plan for 4 months for 4 dollars. Huge deal. Might move to Qobuz as some artists I enjoy do not always appear on tidal.

Except for classical, if an artist is not on Tidal, there is even less chance they will be on Qobuz. I can look it up if you want.

Mhmmmm, I really enjoy their curated content and overall GUI, looks sleek and it's fun to just explore and discover as you've noticed

Quality wise Qobuz is nice for the simple straight forward lossless it offers, I enjoy it extensively and the Library is/has grown A LOT, I strongly recommend signing up for the service!

Despite Tidal pushing Hip Hop at the top, their “Suggested for You” section has actually been doing really well for me lately. I only use their app on my phone, since I just find Roon to be the end-all solution at home, but I feel like they’ve really got their UI together.
