    Also, I think it's hard to be elitist if my bedroom / headphone rig is an HD650 (KISS modded) with a Jotenheim and Modi Multibit fed from a crappy CDP I got on fire sale from Best Buy. Seriously, think about this. A lot of folks on HF probably have way way better gear than I do.

    I don't know if the language has built a barrier or I'm plain dumb but, giving a favourable treatment to someone you know and in consequence, someone that you have forged a certain confidence, is seeing as a sort of elitism?

    Any club should be built around:

    1. People with an interest in common
    2. People you enjoy spending time with

    I don't see a sense of superiority about SBAF, just a bunch of people near the centre who know each other's ways and enjoy a sense of companionship. Not exclusivity, just discernment.

    Edit: Hell, I have no idea how I gained "friend" status. I don't know anything about audio gear and don't have anything worthwhile to say in this regard. I just love music and really enjoy having a yarn with members. There's nothing elite about the culture of SBAF as long as you can think for yourself and engage in interesting and/or amusing conversation.

    Yeah, I'm not sure how you got Friend status either. But that certainly goes to prove that we are not elitist. Haha.

    The other thing is to try sending PMs to anyone on the Kryptonian Ruling Council. Even really "stupid" stuff along the lines of "what should I get, an HE400S or an HD600", and there is a 90% chance that you will get a reply. I'm not perfect in my reply rate, most of the time because I get so many PMs and forget. But try that with Jude - especially if you are a pleb on HF - good luck getting a response. Point is that we make huge effort to connect with people. We've always cared about people more than gear.

    Okay, I appreciate the initiative of finding out on your own what the differences between all kinds of audio gear may be.

    Second I am still using an ancient Pico DAC at 24/48 bits in W8 Pro for my cheap Logitech S715i and it still sounds very acceptable for a low budget solution. Low budget gear can be amazing value, just do not expect to to hear many differences or giant killing audio performance.

    To properly hear differences you need to check out pro-audio interfaces with all kinds of settings and/or full audio systems centred around specific headphones or speakers to reduce biases. It used to be a hobby until I stopped enjoying the music and I started thinking: why do I bother?

    When something does not work, it does not work and you will notice immediately. We all know that here.

    Lastly, please introduce yourself first and share some music. This hobby is more than analysing gear...
