How much does the Manley gear go for used?

Maybe get someone to build you a Bottlehead phono. The Reduction is probably going to be my next build.

I use the Shure on the Marantz TT-15S1 instead of the cartridge that came with it. I realize the Clearaudio Virtuoso cartridge that comes with it is supposedly awesome, but why waste it when the Shure is so good. Maybe when I've cleaned all my vinyl I can start using that.

Any recommendations on a not too expensive MC cart? Looking for something along the lines of the 2M Black: incisive, unforgiving, scraps all the crap from the grooves including the dust and crap, yet still has kind of a sweet sound. Not a big fan of warm, but I don't want something cold sounding either. Where is @DaveBSC when we need him?

Gonna go with HOMC because why not.

Things that come to mind as not overly warm, and very detailed for less than a 2M black.

Also pretty interested to see some reviews on the HANA SH HOMC with a Shibata for $650 made from a long time japanese OEM that could be a pretty great bang for buck cart.

The Hama with the Shibata looks interesting. I might go with low output since I have some good Jensen step ups lying around.

Maybe the Ortofon's new quintet line? I've read they share a similar voicing, as does the Cadenza line. But we're then talking $$$ instead of $, if you going up the line.

The Quintent is within my price range, but the Hana OEM thing appeals to the more level-headed value side of me.

Very nice, I might grab one of those as well. My Transcription phono has plenty of gain, I can take either.

f**k yeah, turntable is fixed. Listened to the actual soundtrack of Star Wars episode 4. Now I'm listening to Heads or Tails by Saga. Yup, I really like the sound. I'll be back for advice

For completely selfish reasons, I'd love if you bought the Hana and did a good write up, I've been waiting for somebody to bite the bullet and talk about it.

I think AT33PTG/II is very good bang for buck but only if the phono stage has enough gain for 0.3mv input

Smitty probably has more money than me, and I haven't heard vinyl since I was about 10. I won't be a very good reviewer for a while. :p

And I've got the Mani, so it should be able to do a lot.

What do you guys think of SOTA gear? I have a pretty decent offer for a Comet IV from my dealer.

Clamps will help flatten warped records more than weights. On my VPI Classic, I prefer the weight over the clamp. More lively sounding. The clamp deadens things a bit. I'd easily take either weight or clamp over nothing though. Using neither results in a rather uncontrolled mushy unfocused sound.

You want not flat? My Sony TT mat is some weird oil filled mat that has become not flat over the years, I've tried some tricks to flatten it out and it has gotten at least 65% better but nonetheless every record I throw on it has a very minute un-evenness. The heavier records actually do better for once.

I have yet to buy a Bren or other more expensive weight/clamp, but a $20 weight from a local store I use on my other table for dished records. That particular weight I cannot use on the Sony as the spindle is too tall but I actually prefer no weight at the end of the day.
