In the later stage of CS we haven't seen a lot of discussion of this fantastic CIEM.

Let's revive it here and share our experience and thoughts.

    Great idea..

I'll have my second pair of UERM's this week (sold my first pair earlier this year to help fund an HD800). What I'm most excited about getting reacquainted with is its resolving ability and clarity. I seem to remember its texturing ability (being one of the few things that) left a little something to be desired, though. I plan to run it balanced through the GoV2+ Infinity (whenever the hell it actually arrives). One other thing I seem to remember is that it took a healthy amount of use for the treble to articulate and smooth out.

Really enjoy mine still, but I think there is better out there now, I'm just too cheap to sell these and get new ones. The Westone ES60 is what I'd buy if I didn't have customs.

I got my MassDrop pair a week or two ago and I've been loving them. They sound great out of my iPhone even. I had these for a trip to NYC. They were incredibly comfortable on the plane and were a delight to use while wandering NYC. Such a great portable set of headphones and they truly do sound fantastic.

You're going to love the V2+/UERM combination.

Are you running yours balanced out of the V2+, Paul? I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Got to try all of the Ultimate Ears stuff a few months back because they are right across the street from me at Blizzard. They make some great stuff, but none of it is basshead gear (UE11 comes closest), so I don't plan to pick any of it up.

Single-ended for now. I may get to balanced at some future time, but I will need to get another pair (or maybe a set of Noble 4) before I do that. The UERM are my backups for the gym, for when I run out of battery on the Noble BTS/Noble PR, my sources in the gym are only single-ended (iPhone and iPod Touch), and I'm too damn lazy to swap cables on a regular basis. I should probably sell my AK Jr. to raise the $ for that.

I probably use my UERM more than any other headphone at the moment simply due to convenience.

Are the infinity/+ for GOv2 worth it for use with UERM?

I just got mine from the Massdrop deal today based on its reputation on CS. It's my first CIEM and I'll wait a week before making any definitive judgement. As far as fit goes does the CIEM needs like a suction kind of sensation in order to tell if I'm getting a good seal? I feel like the right side is a tick looser on mine, but I'm not getting any channel imbalance or lack of bass on frequency sweeps.

    I do get a vaccum-like sealing.

Good question. A suction feeling actually keeps the ear drum from moving freely and you won't get the clear, open sound you want. That holds for any ciem and comes out of discussions from ciem makers (they cited research which I don't have, but just see for yourself).

So, for the best sound, seat the ciem gently and get a good seal, then lightly break the seal to free any pressure.

This has been a big question to me for some time. With the vaccum-like seal I feel UERM becomes strangely bass-heavy, which is very untypical. I don't know which way (tight or loose fit) is "correct", but fortunately enough I like both ways' sound. Though I prefer the loose fit's sound a bit more.

I don't have a reliable way of answering that question right now. The only v2+ I've heard so far is mine, which is an Infinity. I didn't choose or pay for the Infinity upgrade, it was a freebie for us long-suffering (14 months from credit card being charged to delivery) Indiegogo backers.
