Who in their right mind would space out the pucks and try to place the amps spiked feet on them?

Place furniture pads under the spikes, then place the amp where you want it, then lift 1 furniture pad out and replace it with a puck & repeat. Easy enough?

If we think about it, pucks make absolutely no sense. The intent of the spikes with so little surface area at the tips is to high pressure couple the amp onto the surface of what is sitting on.

The pucks defeat this purpose since the the amp isn't speaker weight where small pucks would be an acceptable compromise to not damage surfaces.

Forgive me for being dumb, but why does high pressure coupling matter with some amps?

Gear coupled or eventually coupled to concrete slab (if you have such) or other heavy objects will vibrate less. Tubes, caps, phono needles will impart a sound from vibrations. It why tapping on some gear will show stuff on RTAs / FFTs.

same physics apply to speakers and amps, only sorta the other way around. with speakers one may find benefit to coupling the speaker to the floor. With an amp, one may find benefit to decoupling the amp from the rack (which may or may not be coupled to the floor which, if 60 ton concrete slab might be "good"; if its suspended wood flooring over joists might be "bad").

Anybody who suggests running spikes into a hockey puck is ignorant of what's actually going on.
