Is there an unspoken aftermarket IEM case that is generally considered the best case for safely carrying your IEMs and protecting them from damage?

Penguin cases and Otter boxes are both good and used by the makers of ciems themselves.

Are you traipsing thru the jungle or rock climbing with them? :p For general traveling and commuting I would think any random pouch would work, wrap it in two tee shirts if throwing it in a bag...

I like the pouch that came with my Etymotics, it's very compact but padded, has a zipper and a couple side pockets, and even if I'm working hard and sweating my ass off it doesn't seem to let any moisture thru.

For my beaters (Xiaomi Pistons 3) I just use a random drawstring pouch I bought at CVS. I imagine those mini pelican cases would be the thing if you need something waterproof or that you can sit on by mistake.

For my UERM, I used a $12 LowePro hardshell case designed for tiny digital cameras. Worked superbly, and made it look like the contents weren't worth stealing. Alas, it didn't prevent me from leaving them in the seatback pocket and walking off the plane without them.

Wow, that is a very nice price for an excellent pouch! I already bought an ety pouch after following your link.

From all of the responses, it looks like everyone kinda ends up with their own case depending on their own ideas and requirements.

I am kind of a leather enthusiast because I am fascinated by craftsmanship. So, the following links might also lead to a useful case or pouch for your consideration:
    1) a surprisingly sturdy case: http://www.saddlebackleather.com/leather-coin-purse
    2) a beautiful pouch: http://www.saddlebackleather.com/small-fly-reel-bag
The pouch is pricey, but some of the incredible IEMs like the UERM probably deserve to be carried in something just as beautiful. (I am not employed, affiliated, or associated with Saddleback Leather in any way, as I am generally in bed about 18 hours a day.)
I own several items from Saddleback, including an eyeglass pouch that works well for carrying my less expensive IEMs - the eyeglass pouch does not have too much structural rigidity and no padding, so I would not put an IEM in it that costs more than $100 in it though.

Ya I hadn't noticed before how cheap they sell them, I bought a second one myself. :p They've got a leather one (with a magnet flap) and a more hard shelled one as well (albeit larger):

    http://www.etymotic.com/consumer/accessories/cases.html

I've got a bunch of leather (prolly pleather) pouches already (mostly the drawstring kind), from Koss and from camera lenses, or I might've bought Ety's too for <$5. I like those Saddlebacks, pricey but I'm sure they use high quality treated leather etc.

That first one you linked isn't too bad for what it is and looks pretty rigid, might have to bookmark it to grab one if I ever get some CIEM.

I've been using the Westone zip pouch for years. My customs have been fine for the last 4+ years

Pelican myself. But be careful with IEMS and daps in the same case. I managed to crush one of my expensive IEMS being careless. Much better off with 2 cases, but that's a PIA.

This audio technica hardcase is great for ciems with a thin cable, or big items with a thin cable. Pictured at a Japan train station :)

That looks really handy. Any thoughts on where to get one in the US?

The case that comes with Campfire Audios IEMs are great. If only they sold them seperately.

Thanks for this. I got mine a few days ago and it's absolutely perfect for my UERM.

UE's Triple-Fis come with a pretty nice case, sturdy and light. I seem to remember they sold it separately too.

BTW, that TF10 cable is basically the worst I've seen to date. Do you guys know of a cheap-ish replacement?
