I would be tempted to buy just the preamp but the seller wants to sell a combo. I know nothing about Sherbourn but I heard Emotiva based some of their components on Sherbourn. Balanced preamp with even semi decent power amp for $650 CAD (<$500 US) seems like a good deal. Sherbourn used to offer 10 years warranty

Ah. I totally missed that...

 

Went ahead and bought this. Certainly an odd topology. I was planning on getting an r2r dac to go into my new setup, but the impressions I read of this made it seem interesting enough to give it a shot. Certainly cheaper than shelling out for a Gungnir Multibit. If it ends up not working out for me I'll let you know.

Those big NOS DACs of yester-decades have that weird romance. I think I finally stopped thinking about buying every good deal I saw when I got what is essentially a current production equivalent (Audio Mirror Tubadour). Knowing nothing is likely to be improved by replacement or cleaning is nice.

Any impressions of the Neko DAC so far?

 

Doesn't get here until Monday, so none yet. Once I have a few more DACs lying around I'd be happy to kick it along on a tour if there is any interest.
