FFXV has been fun, but damn does it take its time getting the ball rolling. Thankfully the combat system is fun---especially parrying and reposting---and I thank the heavens that random encounters aren't really a thing anymore. At least, not the interrupt-you-out-of-nowhere-and-scare-the-the-shit-out-of-you kind.

I just don't like turn based combat unless I'm playing a card game.

Also I think Doom 3 is still a decent game, but goddamn, the newest Doom *kills* that game in every way. Times a million. And the lore? I'm excited as hell to see where ID takes this.

The single player DLC better come out sooner rather than later...

Haven't played a Doom game since the original, I decided to pick up the new one for $15 on black friday and I'm glad I did. Kicking demon ass while blasting heavy metal is an adrenaline rush of the best kind.

Yeah I meant Horizon. Assetto Corsa is really nice too, made me ditch Project Cars once and for all.
Thrustmaster just launched ts-pc racer wheel which should be da bomb. Gotta sell the G25 first :). Or hope Santa will bring it. Yeah right..

Think i'm gonna ask santa for civ6.. Should have some free time coming up and the itch has gotten unbearable now.

Can't manage to get into the whole CIV thing now... Which is sort of annoying and weird when you spent ~60 bucks and it looks and is fun, but takes so long for a game that you never fire the game up.

Used to play CIV 3 quite a fair bit...

Civ6 is kinda broken right now, wait for the DLC sometime next year. Long story short, conquest is the easiest victory condition, AI is pretty bad with new combat mechanics, religion is annoying, and the random interruptions from other civs area annoying. It's okay, but I still prefer 5 right now, even though it feels stale now.

Thanks for the heads up guys, my intention was to wait for a few patches but as you say they tend to change stuff quite a bit with dlc and expansions. Might just put it on my steam wishlist or something.

Just put it on the wishlist. Now and then Saint Gaben descends to fulfil wishlists.

Yep, perhaps it even stays there like ashes of singulairity... probably not though.

FFXV - probably the weirdest mishmash of a game I've ever played and yet still enjoyed so much despite the massive ups and downs.

I feel like they got half way through making it and had to rush the remainder. Really disjointed at times. Oh well, still fun and keeping me interested, often for reasons I can't quite explain.

Chapter 13 can go die in a fire. That much I can say with certainty.

65 hours into Witcher 3 and it just keeps on giving. Only thing is, character level progression seems too fast. Even if I just do the main quests I'm leveling fast enough to be ahead of those quest level recommendations. When I dip into the bazillion side quests (which I made the mistake of doing for a while), it sends you waaay over the level required for the main quests, making them a non-challenge. Bit of a strange way to design the game imho.

You can probably think of it this way: Those that rush the main story line wants the challenge, so the main quest levels are set so that it is challenging, but those that do everything want to enjoy the journey, so you end up with a high enough level that you can enjoy the story instead of OHSHITOHSHIT.

Do you play on death march? Even enemies that are a few levels lower are a challenge.

Any adventure game fans? In the 90's I played a bunch of Sierra and LucasArts games. The replay value is quite low but you can think of it like a book. You can buy a bunch of Sierra games on Humble Bundle right now for very little money.

The only thing missing is Leisure Suit Larry.

I'm on the one below that. Perhaps that's the issue...

Guybrush Threepwood formed quite a bit of my childhood, although I sucked at figuring out what to do next.

Cybertroopers Virtual On Operation Moongate... that, that was my childhood.

So I've been playing The Last of Us Remastered over again, but in Grounded mode/8-bit difficulty. If any of you are thinking of replaying the game ahead of the sequel, I definitely recommend it. Main differences are scarcity of ammunition, lack of Joel's "listening mode" (which lets you see through walls in other difficulty modes), and far-between check points.

Scarcity of ammunition changes the game, and you find yourself pulling out a gun only when your back's against the proverbial wall. If you're facing off against a swarm of infected, you'll be going hand-to-hand in no time because of their speed. Making use of environmental insta-kill animations and smashing heads with every brick and bottle is practically required. It's a lot more fast-paced and improvised than mowing them down with guns. Humans are deadly, because if you're hit close range with a bullet, that's an insta-kill (haven't upgraded my health yet though, so maybe I will be able to take 2 shots soon. Whoopdeedo). The best thing to do against humans is keep out of sight and hunt the isolated ones. Chances of survival against more than one person or without the element of surprise begins to drop very dramatically.

Lack of listening mode means you rely on your senses acutely in Grounded. I'm not sure if the original game had the same level of depth with the audio settings, but it works really well with speakers. The depth perception is especially useful. I had to adjust my speaker azimuth in settings pretty wide to accommodate the almost near-field set up I've got right now. Also, the far-between checkpoints increases your desperation to stay alive, which is a nice touch to round out the post-apocalyptic survival type experience.

Finished a few games from the backlog...

Firewatch - Awesome indie game with a story you can see coming a mile away but still, very well done. It's basically a "walking simulator" btw...
The Bunker - another FMV "game" in 2016? Yes, please. You are basically watching a made-for-TV movie and I would have preferred if they had more puzzles, interaction, etc. but, it's Ok.
World of Final Fantasy - This is an odd one... it uses a "stacking" mechanism for the battle system that I actually found refreshing but OMG, so much random battles! At least it was mostly easy to finish and I did not have to grind a lot in order to beat the game.

Did play a bit of Battlefield, and Forza on the XBox One as well as more Rocket League, and a few other games on the PS4 but actually, I've spent MOST of my time playing with my Vita! I LOVE the Playstation Vita! Too bad Sony really doesn't support it much on the US! But it has some really cool games + PS1 games, PSP, etc. etc. Now I'm playing those "otome" games, and although they are limited in gameplay, it's like reading/and/or becoming part of a story book. I find them fascinating. Anyway, hopefully I can keep decreasing the backlog this year... hopefully...
