Maybe the Sony Greenlight Board was too busy laughing to actually tell them "no".

So, uh, the Nintendo Switch. I don't really have any interest in the Nintendo games, but new stuff from them always gives me this tiny piece of hope that's recently been wasted on the Wii U and, for the most part, the 3DS.

Poorly arranged thoughts on the presentation:
    • I'm honestly kinda wary of the paid internet thing. I wasn't when Sony announced that, and I did pay for Xbox Live before, but, uh, Nintendo's various attempts at figuring out online have always been less than stellar. So I can only assume this will mean "we're doing the same thing everyone else is, but worse".
    • Region locking is out, which is cool, considering nobody else really does this and it's the biggest thing I hated about the 3DS. Well, this and the really bad account-console locking. Maybe they'll fix that too!
    • I know this has been discussed to death, but holy shit, I can't imagine a human being playing the Switch in the Tabletop Mode in public, like in the announcement trailer. OR the handheld mode too, really, because the Switch is gigantic. The 3DS XL was too heavy for me already.
    • The wireless local multiplayer looks like fun, though I don't think I'll ever be surrounded by (up to) 7 other people with their own Switches. Or that many people will, outside of Japan.
    • The Red/Blue color scheme looks horrible. I know it's supposed to evoke the classic player 1/player 2 colors, but... yikes.
    • The actual controllers sound like some actually impressive pieces of technology. Too bad it's only gonna get used by indie games. :( Also, the presentation style makes me think they really want Iwata to be back from the dead. :(
    • Splatoon 2 looks cool as f**k and remains the best Nintendo IP
    • There was a giant green penis demon on screen during the SMTV segment lmao. Truly, not a console for kids anymore. But yeah, this might actually be the game that'll get me to buy the Switch. Cuz I guess they're not coming back to the 3DS.
    • No More Heroes 3???????????????
    • I hope Disgaea 5 getting a port won't mean NIS is moving away from the Playstation oh noo

    Other:
    • The controllers somehow cost 110$ for a replacement, making it the price of a Wii U tablet. Except less justifiable. And they're also sold separately, for some reason...?
    • Despite the Switch supposedly having a touch screen, the presentation didn't show a single use of it. Which is kinda understandable, really, since the big third party games will never use it. What with having to stick the console inside the dock every (2.5 to 6) hours.
    • I like how the game cases look. Very PSP-y.
    • you need a phone app to use voice chat lolllll
    • uhhhh...uhhhh... Im swinny, I mean swery 66... and uh.... trambis tungledown is indegames.... for the nintendeak switch

Was really disappointed in the reveals myself. The price is way off the mark. $299 USD when the ps4 and Xbox one repeatedly go on sale for $249 is just embarrassing. No pack in games either.

The system itself looks great. Some of the games further out look good. 3rd party Japanese development will likely start moving from the 3ds to the Switch now. Zelda looks REALLY good but it's essentially the only game worth buying at launch.

I think it looks great as a handheld, but I like the 3ds XL too so this will likely be a YMMV scenario for most. Regular new 3ds users will likely be put off by the size. I'm really hoping for a smaller, handheld only version later on down the road. Same game library and specs.

Putting online features behind a paywall is a terrible move. Are we too expect Nintendo will have as a robust online as Sony and Microsoft? I doubt it. Using a phone app for chat functions doesn't give me much hope either.

I'll still buy one though. I've bought every handheld since the original Gameboy. I must have my Pokemon and fire emblem fix. Everything else is just a bonus. I may wait until better bundles or prices though (crossing fingers for handheld only version next year).

Honestly the only things that interest me on the Switch are:

-New Splatoon! This is Nintendo's best new IP in ages. And I hate that I'm gonna pay for Nintendo's Internet service just to play it.

-Weird new Mario Odyssy with cities and cars. Sonic 2006 anyone? Only it looks pretty cool TBH

-No More Heroes 3. For when I get tired of Let It Die, I guess.

    Also....
    -Shin Megami Tensei
    -Octopath Traveler
    -Eternal Darkness ....??
-whatever From Software ends up releasing .... ??

I'm *not* a big Zelda fan. Never have been. Majora's Mask was an exception. Maybe Breath of the Wild will be too, maybe not. There's so much awesome stuff coming out early this year however, I'm in no rush to play it whatsoever.

    - - - - - - -

Switching gears (hur hur) to Microsoft... canceling Scalebound was a big "wtf?" moment for me. That was like the *one* AAA game I was looking forward to on that system. Now all it has for me aside from Killer Instinct is... Um... Cuphead, I guess? Lmao.

    - - - - - - -

2017 as a whole is looking great. At the moment I'm mostly playing Let It Die, Salt & Sanctuary, and revisiting Demon's Souls for the millionth time in an effort to tide myself over until more info on the final Souls DLC is announced. I'm enjoying myself.

For me, January is all about Resident Evil 7. Which seems like the best entry in the series since RE4. I'm looking forward to using the VR with it, but TBH it's probably gonna make me violently nauseated. I get motion sickness easily.
-I'll prolly check out Gravity Rush 2 at some point. But there's just so little time...
-Also a new Tales game. I know @%20 Oddity is into those.

    February is all about NiOH.
-To a lesser extent, I'm interested in For Honor.
-Also Horizon Zero Dawn is a thing? I guess?

March is all about Mass Effect Andromeda. Which I reeeeeally hope doesn't suck.
-Nier Automata is another title I'm gonna get for sure.

    April is Persona V.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and Tekken 7 will be released at some point this year, presumably.

    - - -

Will prolly look into the re-releases of ABZU and Bulletstorm as well. Also the single player DLC for DOOM 2016 better be released sooner rather than later....

I saw the Nintendo Switch live-stream and I can say that... I would probably still prefer my Vitas (yeah, I have multiple Vitas lol). BUT, it looks like it has potential, especially with all of that technology crammed into the controllers. But, at $80+ I hope that those controllers can take a beating! I trust Nintendo though. They make quality products!

I wouldn't mind playing Splatoon, NBA 2k, Shin Megami Tensei, etc. relaxed on bed just like I do with the Vita.

Thing is that, I'm actually looking at this as a portable and NOT as a console. I just think that graphically it kind of sucks (for a console)... Zelda was the most gorgeous game they showed and meh!

Still, I pre-ordered it. Not sure if I'll keep it (I'll probably sell it if the other launch games don't catch my attention).

Octopath looked REALLY interesting. I never played Bravely Default but I heard good things.

Scale bound didn't surprise me, but is frustrating. Puts Microsoft in yet another bad light. I also just read up on the whole Phantom Dust thing. Microsoft just throwing away that brief amount of goodwill Phil brought the brand the last year or two.

I'm probably cancelling my Switch pre order. I just realized Horizon Zero Dawn comes out next month and I still haven't replaced my ps4 I sold a few months ago. Probably getting a Pro, might as well I guess.

So, I'm back into Bloodborne while waiting for Mass Effect to come out.

I've never played a Dark Souls title before, and I'm finding this game to be completely addictive. Sitting at work just wanting to sneak into a corner to watch youtube walkthrough videos :p

Speaking of. The last DLC for Dark Souls 3, The Ringed City, is looking absolutely amazing...

It's a bittersweet time for fans of Souls.

Nintendo has never been at the top the processing power moutain. Their systems have always been bested by the competition on a spec basis. That's just not their game. The Switch, like the DS, Wii and, yes, even the Virtual Boy, is a totally different console. There really is nothing like it and that is what Nintendo, for the past 10 years, is really all about. They always were a bit about it (power pad, power glove, even ROB, etc) but now they are all in on this stuff.

Will it flop? I have no idea. Maybe. Or it could be the next DS.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy so... Yay them.

Just started another playthrough of Resident Evil 4. Getting used to these old controls is hard, but I'm committed.

I *really* wish this game had a Dark Souls-like weapon/equipment switch system on the D-pad. Diving into the menu to equip a grenade or use healing items sucks.

Also I'd forgotten how dreamy Leon is. That hair!

Oh man. You should try the original Dark Souls once you're done with Bloodborne. None of the subsequent games ever reached the heights of the original, in my opinion.

As someone with little time for games, the switch looks perfect. I might sell the ps4 and pick up a standalone Blu ray player since I ordered the switch. I find myself only playing Nintendo consoles and PC games when I have time. I'm sure BoTW and Bomberman R will be all I can play for a good 3+ months.

Been playing the Witcher 3, and my review would be it "kinda sucks but doesn't suck." Story doesn't draw me in. Dialogue is cheese. RPG elements are weak, like if you find yourself in a palace or some rich person's place you shouldn't be in, you won't find incredible weapons or items on display like you might in Skyrim, but you'll find more mead, Temerian ale or other common random shit you could find anywhere else. Combat is fun. Music is repetitive. World is really put together well, especially the lighting, but the damn terrain doesn't change much. In Skyrim you truly had a range of vistas to play in. I haven't finished it yet though so we shall see. Also the story hasn't been half as epic as Skyrim's thus far, I've just been a private investigator essentially. Now that I'm in Skellige though, I'm starting to see some larger than life things.

Gwent is the best part of the game. It is definitely the most beautiful game I've seen though; playing it on a powerful gpu and big monitor will really draw you in.

Dark Souls definitely has the edge on the entire series with its beautifully interwoven and vertical world. I haven't come across an open world in a video game that's as thoughtfully laid out as well as Dark Souls's is. Bloodborne is the best in the series at generating a certain aesthetic and atmosphere around it. It also has the bet soundtrack to me as well. Dark Souls 3 however, has a lot of the best and most memorable boss fights in the entire series for me, and some of the environments in it are incredible. I like the Dragon shrine and the ascent from lothric castle, the archives, and then the twins the best. I also think dark souls 3 has the best final boss of the series as well.
