I'll never quite understand why expectations were so high for Cyberpunk. CDPR doesn't have a track record of exceptional games; The Witcher 3 has major issues, chief among them a crippling lack of depth and dynamics, as well as an over-abundance of functionally negative space. Cyberpunk is very much the same, only while simultaneously being a buggy mess.

Personally I didn't experience very many bugs, but I also didn't experience anything particularly noteworthy from a game design or gameplay engineering perspective. It's pretty to look at...when assets aren't clipping through solid objects, T-posing, floating on nothing, etc., but that's hardly enough to compensate for its utter lack of depth. I mean, I played through almost the entire game with a silenced magnum that was a one-shot kill to most enemies on the game's highest difficulty, wile also keeping me incognito. Just crouch-walk around an area picking everyone off with headshots and nobody was any the wiser. I just can't believe that such a shallow option could be so incredibly and borderline universally effective.

Game design like this should be inexcusable in a post-Breath of the Wild gaming landscape.

Haven't picked up Cyberpunk but briefly saw this and a few other videos like it ... seemed at least semi-serious -

On a different note, Stalker 2!!!!! - I've been patiently waiting for 2 since Stalker - Call of Pripyat. Call of Pripyat was probably one of the more captivating games for me ever. Metro series was somewhat kind of a successor but not really.

On a different note - for those who play racing games or racing sims, what are your favorite steering wheels and pedals? Best way to mount everything + chair? Aside from the guy who turned his actual Lambo into a Forza controller.

Also, heard Forza7 became a lot more arcady or unrealistic?

I've been playing a lot of Hades lately. I think it's been mentioned before, but it's another gem from Supergiant Games. It's mostly an isometric hack and slash game a little like Bastion, but also way different; rogue-like, ever changing dungeons. Great writing, awesome art. And as always the soundtrack from Darren Korb is phenomenal. The music shares a lot of the overall style and instrumentation with the Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre soundtracks, but then this one leans heavily on big guitar heavy rock and roll sound when it needs to be as exciting and epic as it can feel and I totally dig it.

Forza 7 is arguably the most sim like the franchise has ever been.

Thrustmaster belt system is generally regarded as the best force feedback implementation in the mid price range, better than the gear system in the Logitech wheels. I use a Thrustmaster T150 with the pro pedal set which is alright. FFB is excellent but the wheel material leaves a bit to be desired, I did only pay $199 for the whole getup though. I don't have any experience with the mega buck wheels.

I like the GT Omega stands and cockpits. They are all modular and competitively priced.

My buddy just built a Fanatec racing sim and holy crap it is insane. He welded a custom chassis for it but the wheel, pedals and shifter are Fanatec. Playing project cars 2 and Assetto Corsa with a valve index was one of the most fun times playing a game I've ever had.

Ended up uninstalling Cyberpunk and getting a refund. Made it a few hours into Act 2 but the illusion was already broken (my initial impressions were mostly positive). Even if this game had absolutely zero bugs and performance was perfect, it would still be a 3/10 game IMO. The foundation of the game is built upon lies and deception. Many of the games design elements are more than 20 years out of date.

First time hearing about this youtuber, but he goes in depth on the issues and broken promises that plague the game and he brings the receipts:

I fully believe this game wasn't supposed to be like this. This is 100% on upper management who likely pressured the devs to rush the game through the finish line. At this point the game would have needed another 1-2 full years to reach what they promised (and have shown through various videos).

Hopefully this new year is full of not just bug patches, but free content updates to bring the game closer to what they envisioned. Many of the issues though are built into the core game design and won't be easy to change. I am on board to give it another try in 6-12 months.

This looks interesting. It's an upcoming horror game that takes inspiration from Beksinski's works (Hi @e.schell, haha). Don't think I'll ever play this because while I love horror films and comics, horror games tend to trigger my fight/flight/break stuff response a lot more easily. That said I genuinely love the visual direction it's taken.

Looking forward to it, will very likely be watching other people play this on YT haha.

EDIT: uh oh these are the guys that made Layers of Fear. Rather liked it but got a bit repetitive towards the end. Expectations reined in slightly.

Hah! I was considering picking up some stuff on GOG Galaxy and saw this advertised on the landing page. Remarked to myself that the fingers looked remarkably like guess-who's art then saw when I checked out the info page that they actually took inspiration from his work. Felt rather chuffed about that, really, but I've already mentioned I rather like his paintings and photography.

Hopefully it's not another mess that relies more on spectacle and just leaves pacing and worldbuilding on the table.

So immortals fenyx rising is crazy fun. How in the hell did this game get such lukewarm reviews?

I'm hoping RE Village on PC has a VR mode. RE7 scared the shit out of me in VR.

With regard to medium, I'm so excited. They've made it clear you'll need a beefy rig to run with the RT effects on but I'm excited to try it out.

I only just got clued in to sys requirements after I posted in this thread. Yeah nah, even if I somehow wanted to subject myself to a horror game again the 5600 XT ain't gonna be able to run this on anything but potato res probably, so lemme know if you decide to Twitch stream it :))

EDIT: just looked at recommended components and they explicitly state the 5600 should be able to push it at 1080p. Really should pay more attention to that sorta thing, whoops.

    Finished Cyberpunk 2077.
    Underwhelmed.

The bugs and glitches really didn’t mess up the experience too much for me - a minor annoyance, but I’m not TOO fussy. I just wasn’t impressed with the storyline, side quests, characters, graphics, driving mechanics, combat, etc. Compared to The Witcher 3, this sorta sucked.

Not sure what CDPR can/will do to rehabilitate the brand/franchise/image.

Don’t know what I’ll do next as far
as gaming goes. Maybe I’ll go back to RDR2, or pick up Shadowrun (I was playing this to kill time before CP2077’s ignominious debut). Better yet, I should read and listen to music more often in my free time.

I haven't finished it yet. I got about 50 hours in and just stopped playing for a while. I did enjoy it though and I plan on finishing it eventually. Right now I'm stuck into the latest Path of Exile league.

Nothing immediate. It's going to take them years to recover from this. It's probably going to take another giant game like witcher 3, but without the game breaking bugs, for them to earn some trust. Honestly they will never again be the darling of the industry they were before this fiasco.

I agree. Not the futuristic Witcher game I was hoping for.

I've been through three characters to level 50, each focusing on different play styles. Beyond exploring the different mechanics (which all largely ends up being the same drastically-overpower-everything-that-stands-in-your-way-even-on-max-difficulty gameplay) there is very little story here beyond the main quest line and Kerry. Witcher 3 is vastly superior in that regard.

That said, it was still fun. Exploring the different endings was probably the highlight. Going full intelligence/tech build and net hacking everything to death was the safest and most boring route, as it had nearly zero risk. The in your face, hack and slash body / reflex build was far more involved, and a bit more fun. Stealthy builds are kinda slow and methodical but fun. Plenty of ways to play through the game.

I would say this game is a mile wide and an inch deep. Witcher 3 seemed two miles wide and a mile deep, by comparison.

For those who love detective stories, I can wholeheartedly recommend Paradise Killer from Kaizen Game Works. This is a first person mystery / puzzle solver with a very unique setting and one of the best soundtracks ever (IMO). You are sent to investigate a murder on an island existing outside reality. You're asked to do this promptly, since the current version of the Paradise Island (v.24) has been infested by demons and the remaining inhabitants are ready to be transferred to a newer version of the island (v.25) ???. But is this a slam dunk case after all?

I especially like the visual styling, eccentric characters and certain 90's-esque gameplay mechanics. Easily my favourite game from last year.

Below is a picture of the main protagonist, Lady Love Dies.

This is the whole Cyberpunk game in one image for me:

I haven't finished and have on the whole enjoyed it, but each time I marveled at the vistas and details they created to make the city look amazing, I got a little bit more disappointed that I could do almost nothing to interact with it outside of the story line and side gigs.

On the bright side, a decent framework exists, and they can redeem themselves (possibly) with fixes, patches, and more content. A complimentary FIXED DLC w/20 more hours (or so?) of gameplay might help heal the feeling of betrayal and disgust.

Has there ever been a game that was reviled upon release that, after being fixed and having more content added, turned out to be a winner?

I do think just a little bit more depth to interaction and a few DLC could make it great. I didn't play it on launch, but wasn't the Witcher 3 a bit buggy as well? It got a bunch of fixes and DLC and turned out a great game.
