Here's an odd couple: Bifrost Multibit + Marantz 2270. Schit silver looks great with 1970's silver faced receivers though.

2270 was the first piece of gear I owned, and I've still got it. Sadly, it doesn't get enough use, so every other time I turn it on, it ends up on the test bench. That's not to say they're unreliable, but they don't like sitting idle for months at a time. Getting the tuner in shape is a bitch though.

Yeah, mid 70s gear is now 40+ years old. Mine's been rebuilt with all new electrolytics, film caps, updated transistors where available, relay, LEDs...
    It's my daily workhorse.

im still new to this, but why?
wouldnt it always be better to seek vintage amps that on the contrary simply used resistors to pad down the headphone output...

vintage amps were design for speaker output, and if they did include a headphone stage, it wouldnt have been as good as their speaker power stage.... or so I think that it would be best to make sure the vintage amps we seek for headphone use did simply use resistors to pad down the signal and not include a poor op amp headphone stage...

care to enlighten me if im right or wrong!

Most if not all of the '70's vintage amps will use resistor dropping headphone outs and NO opamps.

Hello friends. I have a opportunity to receive an old Power amp called Jadis Orchestra Reference as a payment.
As my primary listening its with headphones, i would like to know your opinions to use it with sennheiser hd800 - banana plug to balance adapter. I also saw some adapters, but don't know if they will degrade de sound. One of them hifi man HE adaptor and others.

I messed around with lot's of vintage receivers for quite a few years and found, in some cases, they paired pretty well with select headphones. But at the end of the day, I always came back to dedicated headphone amps.

The are few headphones as picking as the hd800 when it comes to amplification and "synergy." I suspect that something as modest as the Vali 2 with a nice tube in it would equal or better that Jadis amp that you referenced.

My opinion is to stick with a real headphone amp and take a cash payment instead of the amp. Best of luck!
