oh, wow! Thanks for telling me! The 10th anniversary release of Blood Bank is on Apple Music but Bon Iver is not. Looks like I’ll need to get it from Bandcamp.

really been digging these guys recently:

The Weight was pretty, pretty, pretty good, but Remember is stunning. So I tracked down a CD of their 1st album off amazon.co.jp, youtubed above.

Listening to the live concert of the album, but specifically this track on DG Stage + subscription. See Macklers status post dated today for details on how to get a free month. Lots of great stuff like Max Richter, Balmorhea, and others.

Count Basie, my first jazz love. I played 3rd trumpet in jazz band all thru high school and Basie's big band arrangements really gave me an appreciation for chord structure and being a supporting rather than a lead instrument. The dynamics of the Basie band pull you in and smack you around before backing up and asking you to lean in for yet another smackdown by the horns or saxes. Basie's band is one of the few big bands to have some real soul and not feel sterile or just there to back up some loudmouth singer. :p
Anyone who doesn't like Basie can come to Seattle and get their ass beat by all five and a half feet of me.

In my dumb opinion, the most important new artists are these two kids. JD Beck is like 20 and has such a sick beat on drums, Domi is basically the next Chick Corea. Maybe I'm just hyped but I am SO EXCITED FOR THESE TWO and I can't wait to see what they do. Also hell yeah Thundercat is sick.

Your opinion is not dumb. They give me great hope for the future of jazz fusion. Not quite mainstream accessible.....yet, their chops are worthy. I spent quite a bit of time on their youtube shorter vids as well as listening to the album. Give them one or two more releases to splode.

Minimalism-inflected jazz-rock, if that makes any sense. Superb for Friday (after)dinner:

Going through my vinyl collection and listing stuff on discogs that's worth money and I can live without so I can buy more vinyl to sell again in 10-20 years to buy whatever is necessary to have on vinyl then. Testament is going on the chopping block, I still like it, but not really "sit and relax with a nice LP" music.

Brand X seems to be one of the few jazz fusion bands of the 70's-80's that didn't get big so they seemed to have a lot of fun on their albums. I love the vibes on this one, plus the title is ridiculous and I'm a sucker for long dumb names
