I've decided to re-read LOTR for the second time since what, 6th grade? Figured I needed to give it another go.

After this I think I'm finally going to get around to GoT.. although I still need to read the new Brandon Sanderson book.

Man every time I read that I get so confused.

What the hell was Tolkien doing when he decided:

"They're going through a dark, dangerous forest. Two of the hobbits have been trapped in a tree. How should I get them out...."

"I know! A flamboyant old dude who speaks to trees! Yes!"

    Just finished The Three-Body Problem:

Interesting start of a SF trilogy, Chinese perspective, decent bit of Astro/Physics for those interested.

I have come to realize that I am definitely more inclined to read and enjoy Science Fiction than Fantasy. Not from a lack of trying; I have tried Gaiman and other biggies of that genre but just can't seem to follow through.

Massively satisfying, fascinating take on humanity's first contact with extraterrestrials and the consequences. Lots of physics for the science nerds.

It's a compliment really. Just scrolled by a few selections from this page and physics, self-discovery, super intelligence, and those crazy looking sci-fi books. Not much Tom Clancy or Dean Koontz in here. But, I would expect nothing less from this group. I'm in good company.

    I finally made it.
A couple months back I decided to read The Wheel of Time series with the intention of not taking any breaks with other books in-between. I wanted an uninterrupted, fluid experience of it.
It's been great. I'm about halfway though the final book and it's still full steam ahead.

I'd love to see it come to life as a network series similar to GoT.

I suck at conveying some forms of humor here. I was just cracking a joke. I think I would benefit from reading more light-hearted stuff, but I'm hooked on the storm and stress. Enjoy the book!

Oh come on, almost everyone likes to read enjoyable crap, too. Often after a heavy-but-interesting read, it's nice to cleanse your palette with some pulp- that's another reason to miss the late Mr. Pratchett. Few people did gleefully-deliberate pulp as well as that.

    That said, I'm currently reading:

No, I haven't seen the TV series based loosely on it, though I believe it was popular.

She's a very stylishly understated writer, and it's a really interesting slice of dystopia- possibly a little too on the nose right now. I can see what all the fuss is about, though, it's a good read.

Meanwhile, Amazon continues to offer me seemingly endless Japanese literary fiction heavily featuring cats. Yay, recommendations engines.

This is my absolute favorite series.

Amazon bought the rights to make a TV series out of this and Dark Tower. Not a huge fan of Stephen King, but I'm chomping at the bit for more info on the WoT show.

My friends and I often get lost on tangents during our d&d sessions and we once spent 4 hours speculating how the series would get broken up into seasons.

I heard about that and freaked out. I'm not a big King fan either but I enjoyed The Dark Tower series quite a bit. Hopefully they can make up for the abomination that was the dark tower movie.
Sadly, we probably wont see them come to be for another few years.

Speaking of King, I just bought The Stand for my upcoming vacation. Visiting wife's family outside the country, so should have plenty of downtime for what I understand to be one of his best.
