I have heard great things about the Expanse, I plan on starting that, as well as Dune as my introduction into SciFi. I am currently reading the WoT right now for the first time and its a great series, I am enjoying it thoroughly, but must say Egwene is really annoying to me haha

I've read the whole series 4 times, plus the first time before it was finished. I didn't like Egwene at first, but she grows up quickly. Her and Nynaeve both really come into their own eventually. Faile, Elayne and Aviendha I still don't care for much.

Edit: oh and how could I forget Min. I liked her from the beginning.

That gives me some hope at least, yea most of the women in the series are just meh, I understand the criticism many people have of Jordan and his portrayal of women in the series.

Ive finished several books in the last couple months.

I did a complete re-read of the Honor Harrington series. Id read it twice before, but only up to the second to last book when it came out several years ago. I feel like the end was a little rushed compared to the rest, but it was still excellent. Honor Harrington is a very easy sci-fi read with excellent space combat.

I also finished reading another web serial. It is called Mother of Learning, I read all of what was released last summer, but the last several chapters finally came out, so after I finished Honor Harrington I knocked those out as well. I imagine I will reread the whole thing in one go in another year or so. While not as good as Worm, Mother of Learning is still excellent fantasy that you can read for free online.

Now I've started the Cixin Liu collection of short stories containing The Wandering Earth

First one, I'm ashamed to admit.

I loved Good Omens (the show), and my friend knew this would be right up my alley.

    @Skyline , isn't Cone a Liberation Theologian? How's the book?

Colour of magic is quite different from the rest of the books, but a pretty fun read nonetheless, especially if you are familiar with all the fantasy tropes and stereotypes

The book is fantastic. Yes, Cone is (was) a black liberation theologian and he doesn't hold back in calling out the failure of White Christianity during the lynching era and beyond.

I'm about 2/3 finished, but it's highly recommended.

For obvious reasons (if you're familiar with the nature of bio-energetics, the author of this book, and the individual that helped shape his beliefs) perhaps a controversial read, but I'm making slow progress through it and finding it interesting bedtime company.

Just finished The Baroque Cycle trilogy and The Cobweb in my journey through Neal Stephenson novels. I’m getting close to finished. Now reading D.O.D.O. Also got around to reading William Gibson’s Agency not long ago. Have read all of his novels.

I kept reading comments that the audiobook is the way to go for this series, and it was entertaining for the first quarter through, however i ended up reading the first and and just started reading the second and I concur - good shit and interesting "world building".

I can do podcasts, but audiobooks just haven't worked out for me.

I flew through the first book of the Baroque Trilogy and then got bogged down in book 2. What is your verdict on the trilogy as a whole? May need to revisit.

Had quite a nice run on fantasy lately:

Finished S.A. Chakraborty's excellent Daevbod Trilogy. Set in an Arabic/Islamic/Persian mythological world, and very well constructed. Favorite new author and series of the past few years for me.

Devoured the latest Dresden FIles book and glad it is not a long wait until the next (Sept 2020).

And really digging Middle Game by Seanan McGuire. Excellent so far. Premise(s) at first looks a bit complicated, but masterfully handled stuff so far. I'm also a fan of her October Daye books (a very well built universe), but this feels like a more mature work.

The Chinese Invasion Threat: Taiwans Defense and American Strategy in Asia by Ian Easten. (2017)

An in depth look at the politics, troops, terrain and defense capabilities of the nation of Taiwan.
Informative, exhaustive, eye opening; there's a reason why the PLA hasn't attempted to invade this "breakaway province" and it's not because they fear the US. It's because Taiwan is the best defended country in the world and the Chinese aren't sure they can successfully invade the island. Even if the US cavalry doesn't ride to the rescue.

    Important reading, highly recommended.

interesting. I felt most bogged down in book 1 at times but I have felt that before in the beginning of Stephenson’s books so I stuck with it. Overall I really enjoyed the trilogy. So much to take in and even though it’s fiction I learned a lot about that era of history.

my favorite Stephenson book continues to be Cryptonomicon.

Just finished this today. It's over 500 pages so it took me some time, but I'd consider it an absolute must-read. It's the most important book I've read in a very long time.
