The worst part is that I know he is actually a very pleasant person under all the silliness. I was worried and it happened: he went too far.

Too bad, I wish that Bruce the best. Take care Bruce.

I believe it was my post about "friends" vs "family" that set him off and ultimately led to him being banned again (for the third time?) so I feel somewhat bad about that. Although, based on history, it was inevitable and it appears my post was just the catalyst for him to go off on his little rant. It is a shame because, while I do not know the history of his prior bans, it seems that he was a good person underneath. I do wish I wouldn't have watched his obnoxious music video as it is sort of catchy...

Back to the spirit of this thread, I do think these transgressions present a valuable lesson for newbies on proper forum etiquette and how one should not behave in this community. I know I learned something from this example.

Am I still the only person to willingly open a thread in this subforum for my bullshit? :)

I've kind of always liked sbaf for the humour and sometimes the content. Having re-read my thread here now that years have passed, I can now objectively conclude that I was polite, honest, and possibly quite a bit hyperactive, as I was truly happy to be here and take part in conversations with people I've followed here for some time. That was a very hard time in my life, possibly the hardest. I found comfort here in part. Sounds stupid but it's true. Talking to people you don't know about audio doesn't sound like much but it did help rest my mind. I was never impolite, and I was respectful, open minded even, I'd dare to say. Some people understood me, there are good folks here, really, and they are infact the reason I ate my words and decided to stay here. Only, I never really did stay. After I saw higher ups frowning and hating the pointless back patting that thread has become, ater I was told to read more and post less, I actually did so, perhaps not in name, but in practice. I was not a good match for this place, for having a mind of my own and continuing the conversation too far. I wanted to have that "friend" tag, to make edgy jokes, discuss stuff. It ment something to me personally. I was hurt by the injustice I felt was done.
Later, I've asked some of the mods I was in "conflict" with to remove the custom title, which they kindly did. Only, no mater how much I wanted to give this place and myself a chance, there is just emptiness inside. I was pissed off, now I'm just tired, and it seems pointless.

    TL; dr.
This is a sort of farewell, proper one this time. I'm done with the hobby. I have my Hd800, LCD2, stax l700, Beyers DT770. I've also had other stuff from Senn, AKG, iems, etc. I'm happy with what I have now, and got rid of what I don't need. I don't feel the need to continue buying or trying new things. This is possibly the best thing that came from all this. I've built my own speakers which I'll tell you (or, at least, the people here that did interact with me) about if you're interested, once I find the time to make a 10 channel amp for, and if I'm not banned for this post. I have my lx521's.

I don't want or need anything else. I don't feel anything reading about audio gear any more, bad or good. I don't actually feel anything about being here. I'm getting married tommorow, and am thinking how sad it is my father wasn't here to see it happen. I'll spend all of my remaining time away from audio. I probably won't post here often, if at all. I tried to force myself "in" to sbaf. That was stupid. There's really no reason to do this, anywhere. Acceptance shouldn't mean much to you(me, everyone), truth should.

I don't know if this is a bannable offense, digging up that skeleton, but at least don't ban me until I actually confirm with Lyer that the ciems I'll gift to his friend arrived there, it's simplest through messaging. If I do get banned, I did send you my email address, so you have some way of reaching me.

    All the best, bye.

Real life takes precedence over hobbies, B, and forcing yourself to fit in when you don't feel like it's doing you much (if any) good is pretty silly. Best of luck with everything going on; that's a far nicer thing to preoccupy yourself with than whatever mess this gear hoarding is, and I'd say you've found endgame well ahead of many others on here :p

If you get banned over this without explicitly asking to be then yeah, that'd be some other sort of silliness. Think it's been established that people on the forum are more or less free to do as they please so long as there's a semblance of respect barring for when spiky schlong mode is engaged.

And for anyone following the F/S thread: the CIEMs will be going to the personal friend (and SBAF lurker) whose ZDT Jr. blew a trafo on my watch. Have dibs for if and when he ever decides to let go of them so there's that— just feel it's irresponsible getting ear impressions made when the virus situation is far from under control on my end, never mind I could have actually afforded these. Sigh.

    P.S.
    Lucky 7 dislike!

I don't recall previous history but... It sounds like a good place to be right now... Total success in romance and getting married! Got a set of audio gear you're happy with and don't feel the need to "hobby" it further!

I'm sorry there's a negative side too. But wouldn't it be nice if everybody that left this forum did so for such positive reasons! I wish you the very best, in music, love, life. I hope you'll drop in sometime. Perhaps with news of your speakers.

I don't think so, so don't feel bad. Take a look at his profile posts: unhealthily not very nice.

At the end of the day, MoatsArt couldn't seem to help himself. He seems afflicted by a neuroticism unlike anything that I have personally encountered in my decade on the web. We should pray that he gets some peace in his everyday life.

    On "Friends":
    • Rex, Dino, Ray, (others including myself when I was gravely ill). Yes, the Friends part is real.
    • 99.5% of people do not have a problem. It use to be 98%, this place is much friendlier now. Those who have a problem usually are really into themselves.
    • Most people deserve second, third, and forth changes. I genuinely like Moats Art, but I do not have the time or the inclination to care about this well being. The conditions of his parole were clear, that he would do nothing that would let anyone have an inkling of who he was.
    • Super Best Audio Friends: but you are not one of them. It takes time. Don't expect it the first day. My best friends in elementary and junior high were kids that I first got into fist fights with.

Do not feel lost. Have fun here and stay polite. Status loses meaning after a while. Fun never loses its meaning.

Enjoy your music and gear. Life is short...

Hi., I am a very new member. I am also from a generation that did not grow up with PCs or Software (they were invented after we graduated college). In fact, this afternoon, we just bid farewell to one of us (damn Covid, it's been hell on those over 70) and we acted like we were back in elementary school. Imagine 12 fat old men bickering and being sombre at the same time.

I am trying to find a way to "like" posts and have been unable to.

I tried to find a place where I can ask my "stupid" questions to an administrator but was unable to find that either.

I am sorry to interrupt this discussion but if someone can point me to "How to like posts" I would be very very grateful. Thanks again.

Welcome Navin. There are several fat old men here. I am one of them and will be 73 in a couple of weeks.
For a month or two, just sit back and observe. If you learn anything or whole hearty agree with some one, just do a "like" .
The "like " button is bottom right on the post that you like. It is the thumb's up symbol.

The like/dislike system here was recently changed, and it now seems that to like a post you need Friend or possibly Contributor status (for more about the latter, there's a link at the bottom right corner of the screen).

"Stupid" questions of all sorts are best asked in the All Purpose Advice Thread. If it's something requiring an admin's response, they'll get to it as they have time. If you really want to PM somebody individually, hover over your username at top right, then select Conversations (use it sparingly for admins though, they're busy).

Welcome, and my condolences on the loss of your friend.

@Navin Better yet, simply put your question in your own profile post so everyone can see it. This way it doesn't derail a thread or demand attention from any particular individual. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to help this way and you'll likely get faster responses (and more of them with a wider scope of perspectives).
