I was just about to post that too. This is too sad. And that's an LCD-3F... Also explains a lot about the driver failures.

Does this awfulness apply to other audeze's models like current lcd 2/x/xc? I am/was really interested in lcd 2, but then i discovered what is audeze capable of selling and all the excitement was gone.

When Audeze execs look at Sennheiser's cans they probably feel the same way hut-dwelling, dark age Europeans felt when gazing upon Roman roads, aqueducts, buildings, and statues.

So these LCD2/3/X/XC are probably mostly machine made. Guess what will happen with completely handmade LCD4s.

Haha in response to this I did get an answer from Hifiman about the driver in the HE-1000. According to Eric the rep he said that only 1 in every 10 drivers are good enough to use in the Hifiman HE1K. I dont really understand how you build a business around that but that honestly might explain why it's so expensive.

Obviously still no excuse to put the cost on us when it's Hifiman that is using something that is so unreliable.

That sounds similar to the MDR-R10 where the bio drivers had a low chance of successfully making it into a headphone. Those were ~$2000-2500 I think, when in production.

Ehhh I don't buy it. The he-6 had to cost more to produce than the he1k wouldn't it?

Also hifiman quality control? AHAHA don't make me laugh. Not just picking on the chinese either. I'll never forget that beyerdyanmic video of the T1's being assembled and the lady is just randomly grabbing drivers attaching them to the headband and then stuffing it in the box.

If Audeze pulls a silent streisand over this never give them your money.

When one sample shows this lack of quality control something is very wrong in that company.

If - and I do mean if - the relative proportions of 1, 2 and 3 failures shown in that poll are right there may be more than one problem as the failure rates don't decay as expected. A single cause - such as diaphragm material failure - that strikes purchasers at random with rate f (and assuming repair equals the quality of the original product) should have double failures (same purchaser) at rate f^2, triple at rate f^3 and so on.

    A failure rate of 20% would show a pattern approximating: 20%, 4%, 0.8% for 1, 2 and 3 failures.

OTOH the poll doesn't control for time. The pattern shown could indicate the problem has been around a 'long' time, long enough that multiple failures are more likely to have happened and been reported by now - relatively - than double and single failures.

Whatever, not a good look for Audez'e.

Aaand apologies everyone - I'm thinking of another thread over there about how often has your LCD3 failed. This is embarrassing for my first SBAF post!

I own a LCD-2r1 rosewood or whatever the non-bamboo wood is. The wood has cracked twice on me on separate cups (so four times), and the drivers have each failed once. I have them now in pieces nicely in a box since receiving the replacement cups, along with the new vegan earpads and headband and longer adjustment rods I bought from Audeze. One day I'll reassemble them and just sell them. Tired of failures.

My father owns a LCD-3C, and his cups have cracked on one side once, and the drivers have failed three times, twice on left and once on right.

While I applaud Audeze for their customer service (never given me any headache, except for the shipping costs after the first repair), they really need to step up their quality check and manufacturing methods to ensure this many failures do not occur. Their build reliability is subpar at best.

Maybe the $4995 pricing for the LCD4 includes reserves to ensure awesome customer service for the expected failures in the next three years.

Yeah, that was also my thoughts on the pricing of the LCD-4 - they are taking into account the cost of replacing cracked wood cups and failed drivers preemptively. Smart thing to do with all of the failures. My pair of LCD-3F's have had the wood crack twice, and driver failure as well.
    I wouldn't even pay $400 for the LCD-4's.
