The Ambre is a fine Roon streamer, I owned one for a while but sold it when I replaced my Onyx DAC. However, since I had the Ambre, the Pi 2 Design Pi2AES showed up. Some assembly required, but you can get I2S over HDMI or RJ-45 from it as well as S/PDIF AES and coax. At least in terms of my experience of these I can't see a lot of reasons to go for the Ambre except aesthetics or avoiding a bit of DIY.

Could be, I wasn't able to compare them side by side for I2S. And the ease of connection to Metrum I2S DAC inputs is a winner. However, I did two pairwise comparisons 1) Ambre AES vs USBridge+Sbooster+Unison and 2) USBridge+Sbooster+Unison vs Pi2AES AES, all into Yggdrasil A2. 1) convinced me that I no longer needed the Ambre. 2) is convincing me that I may not need the USBridge+Sbooster.

I forgot how expensive it actually is (got mine for a VERY good price).

    Go for the Pi2AES and add-on RJ-45 board :)

I’ll let you know when I receive the adapter board for the Pi2AES.
I was using my home made adapter (wired) which is worse than a purposefully built adapter.
The main difference was in inner illumination and thus connection to the music.
Could be the clocks. Not sure what the Ambre uses? Accusilicon?

Ambre uses custom TentLabs clocks - one of the reasons it performs so well.

Sorry about the delay. We were waiting on the stupid standoffs! Had to by domestic due to China basically being closed until this week. They are all going out this week come hell or high water (or coronavirus).

Do you think Metrum ambre provide quality source as those multi dollars streamers like aurender n10 or a good CD player like @purr1n has?
