The way I heard about it, it kinda sorta is. With the appropriate disclaimer*, with this upgrade Schiit seems to redefine both value and outright performance. Marv's and other beta testers' impressions should be taken more or less seriously if not literally, methinks.
    * As Marv pointed out, we're splitting hairs on DACs

Has anyone else received the upgraded Yggdrasil to add to impressions yet?

    What do I do?

    I live in HK.

Shipping is going to kill me.

Would it be better to sell mine and buy new? Worth it?

Definitely better to sell locally and just buy a new one. Plus you'd get all the new upgrades + warranty.

Overall less hassle for likely not much more money than you sending it in, imo.

Or...maybe It's not worth the hassle? Wait for a meet or something, if it happens where you can go to, and experience first-hand before you invest so much.

What is the power consumption of the unit with Analog 2 board? The official picture of the first model (Gen 3 usb and the original analog board) showed the power consumption number of 45 watts. However on the specification it says 35 watts. Does the Analog 2 board use 10 watts less power the the original board?

Got to lol @ - And if you really want a "non-obsolete" "32-bit" DAC, you can save $2,200 and get our Modi 2 with ...

32 bits is lame, only 192db of dynamic range? I'm holding out for the Modi 3 with 64 bit support and ~380db of dynamic range :p

(that's a joke for those who take things seriously).

Assumiming Mike or Jason don't answer you, and 10 watts (or whatever the difference is) is important to you, you may want to email [email protected] to get clarity.

Anyone prepping, or passing the time for yggdrasil analog2? Me, marathon listening on wonderful new elac adantes, really getting to know the sound of the Yggdrasil, and ref psaudio (modded, with my own master clock in [http://bit.ly/2DCX3hs]).

    elacs vs. energy 2.2is

realize now the energy's are smeared, swaths of music missing, smaller, limited, grainy mid/highs in comparison (and they are nice if not spoiled by the elacs) my theory is the elac 35,000Hz tweeter... it can handle the "surface area" of the Yggdrasil high's -- the veritas are subtly distorted, giving a forward sound to the Yggdrasil, masking its depth... psaudio stage is back and darker highs, smoothed over, more forgiving on the energy's

    interesting bass arrangement

Yggdrasil/elacs are just fuckin’ fun to listen to, so light, quick, beautiful tones, like they’re not even trying….. not having an external port, internal 6.5" / ext 8" passive doing the lowpass acoustically instead of the xover seems so strange, like they’d be thick & dark… nope

just blabbing, gonna be fun trying out analog2
part of the Andrew Jones progression --> pioneer bs22, elac debut b6, elac ub5, elac adante, TAD

silliness... but what the heck, I'll measure the a1 while it's here.....

23W nothing playing, no digital lock

    25W playing 24/96

Pretty reasonable to keep on 24/7

    .

Exactly. Hence, my use of life changing in a large sense. No doubt it will make my jaw drop, like the Yggdrasil prototype did. If only someone could invent a truly life changing headphone. I still have hope.

Just was doing my old guy, “let’s settle down”. ;) Probably talking to myself.

Edit: Hoping to hear it at the March or April or ........ meet in SoCal.

    Thanks!

Yep I'm using that little PSAudio C100, but it's not normal*... no problems I could detect power wise so far, really not worried about it. Vidar's gotta be enough.
    * however... I did notice it was fairly warm for a classD amp after listening on the elacs, as it's usually cold.

As for upgrading your Yggdrasil, at least you've had it for (i think) a long time, getting *use* out of it... don't see what there is to worry about, they'll get it current... just sit back and watch the feedback once people start getting the upgraded ones back, then decide -- or just go for it!

*if you'd like the slog thru this I wrote about it here: http://bit.ly/2p46UEW It's rated at 150W/8ohm, 300W/4ohm (now)-- Eventually I'll try a nice classAB amp, just really like the gain cell concept (that the C100 uses) for volume instead of a pot or relays, and it's my stable ref., can hear other equip changes thru it- also just sounds nice!

just fyi, I moved 2 spots in the queue in 2 weeks and there's 120+ in queue now. If you get in now, it's probably gonna be a decent wait, not sure if buying new may be faster. Although multiple upgrade options take up multiple spots in the queue, so it may move faster at some point.

I just bought a new one this morning. Schiit said 3-5 days to ship, new are in production now. I'll update when I get it.

Looking forward to trying this. Marv's characterization of the sound put me over the fence; I've been mostly vinyl over the last year, but have recently re-discovered the joys of an unlimited catalog (streaming). Looking forward to mining that collection with the Yggdrasil.

Are all the music streaming services doing watermarks? I'm wondering about Google play music specifically.

It's the labels/publishers doing it, rather than the streaming service, I believe. Thus it doesn't matter which you use, for the most part. You can be lucky for ages and not hit material with it, or material in which it's not obvious, but once you do hit a seam of the stuff it can be annoying.

Anything and everything digital from Universal music group. Horrid mid level audible watermarking heard as flutter in the music. Shame this entails a significant junk (up to a quarter) of music available!

Here's the discussion on another thread for those interested....
