I'm kinda wondering if you wanted to have the most different listening experience between the Atticus and Eikon, what species of wood would you order. Atticus in cherry and Eikon in Paduk?

I haven't seen weight mentioned here. The Blackwoods, IMO, are a bit heavy and fatiguing. How do the Clay Eikons compare in weight? It looks like they are about 600g in Padauk but I don't see weight info on the Blackwoods.

The Eikon sat heavy on my head, the weight was noticeable.

It's cool I have to do more sit-ups and neck pull-ups anyway, not just for the Zach Elronds.

It stands to reason that a combination of heavy wood and heavy magnets poses a challenge for providing a comfy weight distribution. Cherry could help a bit.

The weight of the harder woods will be reduced for the production sets by about 40-60 grams depending on the wood. Cherry is 50-80g lighter depending on the pieces of wood.

    Cherry: 490-530 grams

    Padauk: 550-600 grams

Presumably that refers to final production weights?

Ballpark - once production versions are in I'll have #'s that have +/- of 15g or so. It should be around the low end of those #'s.

Glad that you opted for padauk as the "hard" alternative to cherry, Zach. Aesthetically, it's one of my favorite wood types. Both look excellent in the various promo images.

@zach915m will you and/or your new headphones be at the Super Duper International Meet? I for one REALLY want to hear the Eikons!

Unfortunately me nor the headphones will be there. I will be at CanJam in April though.

I wonder if the Eikon would turn out to be the super HD650 that Elear failed to be.

Unless you have the need for a closed can, no it won't.

Well, I guess we won't know until Feb at the earliest since ZMF won't be at the Super Duper International Meet. It strikes me as ironic that their headphones were prominent at RMAF, but "unfortunately" will be absent at the most important headphone gathering of the year.

I think the Atticus is mid suppose to a closed HD650ish experience. I'm hoping it ends up having that special sauce the HD6x0 series always had. I've had a lot of better headphones than the Hd650, but the modded hd650 is a favorite. I'm actually more curious about the Atticus than the Eikon, since I have complete faith in the Eikon.

I agree, I don't think the Eikon is even aiming for that really. I think that's the Atticus' dealio.

How is it the most important headphone gathering of the year again? Or were you making a joke?
