Yup. And at that, just different. There isn't a single approach that does everything well. Terms like plasticky are simply used to differentiate how things sound.

FWIW, limp dick bass and ethereal aren't words of the month. We still use them today as they imply other things. For example, the Ether's (open) treble can be described as ethereal (fast, light, airy, lively, open). The HE400S (with the stock pads) has limp-dick bass (lacking foundation, impact, heft).

    *inserts flame sheild*

ever since getting into speakers, i don't see a point of having any dynamic headphones, they all sound like shitty speakers to me (had an 800 and 800S previously)

planars have something a little special and different from speakers/dynamics so they are my current choice right now when I cant listen to speakers.

Spot on! Totally describes 99% of the planars.

it matches my own experience with planars as well. most of the time it's boring/meh but in case of HE-6 the arid/stiff/rough playnarness adds to viscerality.

IMO and IME, the HEK is an exception and does not exhibit that much those issues.

    lol wut

So you literally admit that you "candy coated" the last statement as a way to get the last word and deflect from the inherent weakness of your argument

    ????????

Have it your way, you can move on, but the rest of the big boys can have the conversation continue if you don't mind.

Someone let me know if there is an Elear is in stock anywhere. We have funds for it. I really want to get to the bottom of it.

^Not to be a downer but I really doubt there is an Elear in stock right now due to the recall. If there is... Beware.

Once ready it will be overnighted to me(Should have it Friday) . If you can't get one I dont mind sharing mine. I just need that first day of listening with them and can loan them for a week or two.

Most places are set to have them in stock at the end of July.

Aren't you like 90 minutes from The Source AV? If anyone has one, they do. You would even get to chat with everyone's favorite guy, Jason!

The irreverent and irrelevant and non-authoritative gods of SBAF need you there.
Jason really needs a Messiah to receive forgiveness at this point.

Don't forget to check the Focals!

Just gave Source A/V a ring. They say they have both models available for demo and the "recall" was a case of pre-production units getting out in the wild.

What good is a dealer if they're just handing you a box? My dealer brings stuff to my house and sets it up, thus verifying it's working but also giving me the customer service sufficient to justify a dealer mark-up.

So they sold me a pre-production unit??!!!

Well correction... They actually sold me a demo unit because it was scratched.

That smells fishy. They were selling them as production units. I don't understand that.

Whatever...tempted to just get a refund, wait for a full assessment, and buy a used one from a reputable vendor.

How in the heck do 150 pre production units get out in the wild?

Well at least they have them for a listen.

Anyway ignore me... Just thinking out loud.

Do. They have them for purchase?

It's possible Focal released pre-production units and somehow the message that they were pre-production units didn't get across to dealers, so they (the dealers) sold them as demo units. This kind of stuff does tend to happen. Or maybe Focal was pulling an obi-wan because there were defects in the initial production units - thus better to re-categorize them as pre-production units to save face.

First we're talking' headphones, not drugs! :)

Actually, I agree with sfocit. For $4k they should drive to your house, make sure they work with your equipment, bow on their way out. Sure, it's not a $100,000 purchase, but the profit margin on the Focals is probably pretty high. Can't hurt to ask, especially if you are seriously going to buy a pair.

Umm. You guys have it the wrong way. The $4k headphones are a freebie throw in after the $100K speakers and in-home service.

At 150 units I'd say this is much more likely.
