For what this suggestion is worth, when I was modding my m1060 I used some double sided tape that I found on amazon to tape new pads on. You could always try that? It's not as difficult to work with as rubber cement and it can be removed I'm fairly sure. I used it in the past on cellphone repairs as well. It seems to hold. I'm sure other people have some more professional materials they use but it works for me.

In reverse the volume is not linear. I've not tried this myself, but read it (I believe from Jason) at Head-Fi. So only assurance is reverse works at full volume.

I do this. Dac to 2 amps. I use the volume on the Sys to attenuate the dac signal so I get decent volume knob travel on the 2 amps. This is backwards?

Oh no! Now I need a Sys. Now, how do explain to Mrs. Ears why I NEED another piece of gear?

I don't know what your particular application requires, but this kind of thing is a good option too: RCA Male to 2 Female Adapter (link). In my setup I went with an RCA Y-cable that I bought from these guys: RCA Male to 2 Male cable (link). The input impedance of nearly all amplifiers is high enough that you can send the same output to 2 different amps without any signal degradation.

The case where you would really want to run the SYS backwards is if one of your amps shorts the inputs in the off state (something we've seen a few times here), or if you really want to keep your speaker amp on all the time and don't want to fuss with adjusting the pot when you want to listen to headphones.

It seems the primary intended usage for SYS is to switch 2 inputs to 1 output.

Thanks for confirmation that attenuation works in both directions. Being a passive device with only a pot in the signal path, this would be the logical conclusion.

@monacelli I'm planning to send output from Modi Multibit to Magni 3 and CTH (when it arrives). It seems I listen at lower volumes than average and have to use digital volume reduction to get past channel imbalance on my 2 iFi units. Schiit mentions the splitter option on the SYS page, but I figure I'd get attenuation as a bonus with the SYS. I even considered feeding CTH with the preamp outs of the Magni, but inserting active SS schiit into the signal doesn't seem like the best way to feed the CTH.

I'm picking up my order at the Schiitr when I visit el lay next month, so I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need to set up my new system and get it all in one go. So the plan is: Eitr > Modi Multibit > SYS > M3/CTH. Floor Wart is back ordered until after I leave, but I'm hoping they'll be able to set me up with a used one or something.

Let us know how it works out. I’m very interested. Would be interested if @atomicbob thinks would have same effect as lowering the volume on the PC re: sweet spot for ZDT Jr. discussion.

buy an LCD-2C and then send it to me.

honestly, tho, take some rubber cement and apply a small amount to both the mounting surface on the cups, and the back side of the pad and let that set up separately for about a day. then, put another thin layer on each, let it set for about 15 minutes, then lightly clamp the pads to the cups for about 24 hours and you'll have an air-tight non-permanent joint that's removable with some prying.

Quick question is the Sony ZX2 the best Sony dap that can run Tidal / near the best I can do for Andros that streams? Hugo 2 sounds kind of bloated in the bass (probably from the output impedance from what I've read) but I am not a fan of the more "digital" daps like the iBasso dx200. The sabre "glare" was really annoying.

I loved the WM1A but not Tidal means no buy.

Or is something from LH Labs better? I'd actually prefer a dac amp because I like streaming flac from my phone via cellular which any dap I buy won't be doing.

Looking for a good mobile solution essentially, a Hugo 2 is unwieldy lol.

Even though I haven't heard any negative impacts from using digital volume control on foobar2k and UAPP, I'd like to feed Modi Multibit the purest signal possible, thus eliminating all nervosa from the chain...

Exactly why I am interested. Nervosa. I know I am knocking out some bits. For the price I’d order it tonight. But I am learning to take more time. Even for $49. @ultrabike has influenced me over the years. Thanks bro.

So long as you're outputting at 24 bits you can digivolume all you want within reason since only 20 are significant, and that's on a perfect master.

    If you're sending out 16 ... yeah, don't touch those controls :D

If it helps, I originally ran one output of my dac through a splitter and directly to the Liquid Crimson, and one through the Sys to the other input on the Liquid Crimson, just to attenuate the signal. I could not hear a difference between the two. Just me, my ears, switching the input selector on the amp from 1 to 2, and adjusting volume on the fly. Completely non-scientific.

I’ll let someone else respond completely. I’m not qualified. 24 bit actual output?

Yep, I think the SYS is a great fit for your application. My comment was intended to highlight that you can run it forwards (with a splitter) and have the best of both worlds. You'd have output flexibility, use of the volume potentiometer over its linear range (where it's curved to be used), and the option to add an additional source in the future (another DAC, turntable, etc). The SYS is a stellar little device, I love mine.

@Ringingears Just read this and I think Bob is reducing distortion from the DAC, which would still be there if attenuated by a SYS before being sent to the amp. So it's not about hitting a sweet spot on the amp's pot. I'll have to look at his Modi Multibit measurements again an investigate, but if he's doing this with a Gungnir Multibit I assume it won't be any better with the smallest member of the family.

Oh ... IC. Run it forwards with DAC output into one of the inputs, then split the output to the 2 amps. Then have another input available to switch between. Interesting. I'd leave Magni on all the time, so I wonder if the CTH "shorts the inputs in the off state." Good point about linearity of the pot. I guess that's what Schiit is addressing with "volume all the way up."

I've read that SYS is pretty much transparent. I don't have bat ears, so I'm pretty sure I'll be satisfied.

Yes. DAC output if possible , digital source otherwise. Just wondering if analog would work. But a good point.

Not sure if this helps or is even doable. But if you really want the ZX2/Andro synergy as well as cell streaming, I wonder if it's possible to run UAPP (or other) as a UPnP renderer on your phone, and then UAPP (or other player) as the control point on the ZX2, with the ZX2 tethered to the phone's Wi-Fi. No idea if it would even work, and if it did would be too impractical to use.

Can a cell phone sharing Internet access with tethered Wi-Fi create its own local network?

It is possible to use my phone as a hotspot and then connect the ZX2 to it. That would work and is a good idea.

Yes, I was overthinking it and focusing on "streaming flac from my phone." Just stream straight to the ZX2 using the data connection of your phone.

Not enough sleep last night due to thinking too much about DAC/SYS/amp permutations :p
