Is that boat getting any closer?

 

Having just shipped some tile from China, expect 3-4 weeks transit time in the boat. Also, once it's on the boat, doesn't always mean the boat has left the port, and once it gets here it can take some time to unload. Then if customs gets a bug up its butt it can take another week or two to clear. Could be faster, but set your expectations low and you'll usually be happier. Cheers

Very excited for these to be dumped all over r/AVexchange, etc. by people that impulse buyed and forgot about them. No way I was waiting that lead time

 

Aren't you still waiting? I don't think they've been shipped yet.

I think the only difference is whether it would bother you to have a couple hundred dollars tied up for several months. Personally I would prefer to do that rather than faff about with additional risk via the secondary market.

Just checked the Massdrop site so others don't have to. There was an update five hours ago:

I just got an email:

 

The first units started shipping to customers on February 20. Let‘s see how long it will take my MCTH + SDAC to arrive in Europe!

 

Ahhh that explains the email I got from UPS Quantum

 

Received mine today. It worked for about 5-10 minutes, then died. It looks like both the tube and the unit itself died because the tube has cracked glass on the inside, and when I try to swap in my other tubes none of them work. The weird thing is that if I turn the volume up to the max, I can hear very faintly music from it. But yeah, pretty much DOA.


It sounded good while it worked....

 

Sorry to hear about that. Got any pictures of the tube? Any fuses in place?

Edit - Actually a blown primary fuse would likely kill the whole thing, but still curious, so left the fuse question in.

Couldn't get the size right haha. Anyway, you can see the cracked glass in there. I don't know what else to look for. But, more concerning than the tube is that I get no sound even when I use my other tubes. So it's not just the tube that's screwed.


I don't know where any fuses would be, and I'm hesitant to open it up to look for it. I don't want to mess with the warranty. I'm deeply disappointed though. I was digging the sound, and was about to give some impressions after the burn-in.

 

That sucks Maybe it was damaged in transit? Hope mine gets to the UK okay.

 

A cracked tube is pretty much amp suicide. If you ever see that white discoloration on the inside of a tube, it is dead. Sorry to hear of your misfortune but am sure MD will set you right.

I have zero experience with tube amps, but I'm waiting for my CTH to show up.

Are you saying a cracked tube means the amp killed itself? Does the white discolouration mean the tube is dead? Or the amp is dead?

 

Wow, sorry to hear of your trouble @Resolve. Hopefully this issue will be isolated and doesn't effect a whole pallet of amps.
