The Dorado is something like this, its the BE DD combined with the Andromedas high drivers and out Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber (TAEC) technology.

If you look at the above post the BE=beryllium dynamic driver found in the Lyra II. The Vega uses the diamond DD. Please read and use google before posting @Esm87 questions that the answer is already stated.

Given that all the DD drivers in this lineup seem to be tuned similarly, I don't think it's so radical to compare the Dorado or Lyra to the Vega, despite the differences in materials.

I have a dumb question...but has anyone tried driving the Dorado or even the Vega with good results out of iPhone 7 dongle or AQ DF red/black?

Got the Lyra II in the mail today. First impressions are pretty good. From the iPhone 6s Plus, it's a pleasant, nicely balanced listen. Present mid bass hump, with a laid back treble. Clear, smooth midrange. Extremely comfy fit and absolutely first-rate packaging.

I particularly appreciate how Campfire popped each earpiece in its own velvet bag to keep them from knocking together inside the carrying case. Nice touch! ;)

Lyra II reminds me a lot of the Aurisonics Rockets, actually.

@Gaspasser I've tried the Dorado with the iPhone7 (first time I tried the "Lightning/3.5mm dongle"!) and while it drives the CA IEM loud enough, it really doesn't bring out the full potential of the Dorado IMHO. My "portable" stack is an AK100/Mojo/CV5 so I'm a bit spoiled in what is driving the Dorado's. The Dorado's, like the Andro's and Jupiter's in my experience really scale well. Expect the Vega's to be the same (and can't wait to get the Vega's soon!). Cheers

Fun evening with the Lyra II, but I think that I'll be sending one this back to CA. Despite the aforementioned praise, it's just a bit too "thick" for my taste. Lacks for technicalities and doesn't scale up significantly, either.

Ye it was sort of an assumption if anything. Im pretty new to this audio hobby, I dont understand graphs too much or alot of the technical lingo audio purists use. It would be pretty difficult for me to truly understand a descriptive difference between the two different IEM materials sound output.

Just thought, with them being both CA and a break away from their BA counterparts, the sound may be a mix of both andro and vega tuning, thats all. Didnt mean to come across as lazy or such.

    Cheers!

Someone on HF described the Dorados as U-shaped, and the Lyra II as having rolled off subbass, so it sounds like all three have distinct signatures and the Lyra II isn't exactly a Vega Jr.

If you're a midrange obsessive who demands that their listening experience be totally free from the barest hint of fatigue, than the Lyra II would be a great buy. I used to enjoy that presentation myself, but I prefer a more dynamic sound these days.

I know it might be considered overkill by some (but likely not my SBAF pals here), but I just hooked the Dorado's up to my Cavalli Liquid Gold and they sound really, really good! Wow, these things can scale. The impact of the music is incredible, and the LAu adds real weight and clarity - and the Dorado's lap up the power (and the Cavalli is great in having both high and low power SE taps so you can actually use it with IEMs). The Andro's would likely have some issues due to their sensitivity but the Dorado's (and I'm sure the Vega's also) have no issues. Honestly, with these IEM's there's a decent argument that you really don't need full sized cans. Now I really can't wait to get the Vega's and also the Reference 8 in 2.5mm TRRS as I'll be able to play them and the Dorado's through both the Cavalli and the CDM in fully balanced mode (using my Norne 2.5mm TRRS to XLR 4-pin adapter for the LAu). Cheers all and happy listening

At this point my Vegas are fully burned in. I would say its final sound signature is wonderfully balanced. The bass is not as prominent as it was on day one, but I can still feel the impact of powerful hits and I can really make out the texture of the bottom end of each song. Now the bass stands more as a foundation for the exquisite mids. Despite the notable mids, these aren't mid-centric in that you can focus on virtually any part of the spectrum and find spectacular reproduction.

Tonight I listened to a whole range of music, from Metallica to Prince to David Johansen to Gershwin and much more in between. With every track I'd be struck by the amount of detail I could hear, but also how precise and coherent the whole presentation was, and finally how natural the timbre and tone felt. I may still be in new toy territory, but I've had these in my ears for days and they continue to impress me with each new track I throw at them. And when I'm not listening to them, I'm counting down until I can listen to them again, something I've never done with any headphones I've owned or tried.

I'm short, I am more impressed with these IEMs the more I listen to them. They are absolutely TOTL and I appreciate Ken keeping his prices reasonable given the current trends in the market. He could have easily doubled the price on these and made out like a bandit.

1,300 is reasonable? Don't say that out loud!

So, listening to the Sony dynamic flagships (of yesteryear) – the EX1000 and EX800ST (thanks @Warrior!) – taught me the Andromedas are lacking (relatively) on timbral accuracy and ability to convey dynamic contrasts. (Maybe all BA implementations are – fighting the urge to generalize here.)

Conversely, the Andros were distinctively “bigger” sounding (enveloping), so that helps mitigate the dynamic contrast weakness. Now I’m curious how the Vegas would do on those two aspects (or three aspects if you count "bigness"), and whether its weaknesses would be more or less egregious than the Andros’ (obviously, that’s a highly subjective call, but that's what I'm looking for, personal opinions – at least until I get my hands on a loaner precious)

Reasonably priced compared to other TOTL IEMs.

    Merrick,

Thank you for saying this, I am positive we could have asked for a lot more for the Vega but Caleb and I really are just like my customers. We love this hobby first and foremost and we also buy a lot of other companies gear so want to stay grounded. We want to be able to make some profit to keep our ball rolling and what not. However we deeply care about our brand image and reputation in this community.

Curious to know (about) how many hours you clocked in on your Vegas.

I designed a daisy chain PCB that I populated with 20 3.5mm jacks. I attempted to do a mass burn in but found that I had to use one Rx amp per 2 PCBs so it really was not feasible in mass :)

    Thanks

    Ken

Just got back home from the Tokyo headphone festival. It was our best ever showing, very busy and it was really great to finally see some things coming together on the product line up. We had a line of peeps pretty much the whole show of people waiting to listen. The table/vendor next to us asked if we were selling drugs.

    Hi Ken!

I've had the Vegas running almost continually since I received them on Wednesday, either in my ears or balanced out through the Jotunheim for burn-in only.

I've got them running right now--because I'm listening to them! They are incredibly addictive. These have already become my daily drivers, and I'm finding any excuse I can to be listening to the Vegas.
