??? "gapless" used to mean "with the gaps as intended on the record." That is, gaps would not be created when track numbers changed during music, as they might in live/classical, but are retained when they do exist between tracks.
Believe it or not, this was once a really difficult concept for computer players! I wonder if VLC fixed it yet?
Very annoying. In fact makes continuous music impossible to listen to. I don't think it is now, but when I first switched to Linux, finding a player that treated tracks/gaps properly was actually difficult.
