Have you listened to Greg Leisz? He plays with Bill Frisell and Charles Lloyd.

Speaking of "The Real Book", don't miss this great podcast episode that digs into its somewhat underground origins, with many references to the post WWII history of jazz.

Yes to Bill Frisell; no to Charles Lloyd. Haven't really followed either, though I saw Charles Lloyd early in his career & loved him.

Here's a nice Frisell/Lloyd cut--even nicer because they're playing with heavyweight African musicians.

Sorry! Didn't even notice that was hyperlinked. Will check this out.

BTW, one of my favorite Steve Swallow recordings is called "Real Book," and the cover is the famous image of the real book, but with a coffee stain ring added to the cover. Tried to find my favorite cut from that CD, but it's a lockout on YouTube.

That looks very worth listening to & watching on our big screen! BTW, the guy sitting far left is Greg Leisz, and the fiddler far right is Jenny Scheinman. Both have done a lot of work with Frisell. But they all look kind of young(er) on the video (18 years ago...)

Parts of this album get out of hand for a jazz neophyte like me- this strikes the perfect balance in my mind.

Arrgh, I feel so embarrassed, I had never caught up with this track or the whole album The Bright Mississippi, which is so wonderful in its idiosyncratic blend of old and new. Toussaint & Marc Ribot, who'd have thought! Thank you for this eye-opening!

I'm enjoying Selene Saint-Aime's new album Potomitan

Here's a live in studio rendition of "Ezili" from the album.

John Scofield and Dave Holland at SFJAZZ yesterday: flowing, free, uplifting, fresh even though the source tunes were canonical (such as DH's "Not for Nothing" or JS's "Time and Tide"). We walked out lighter than we went in. Which is a great gift these heavy days.

Earlier live duo performance of "Not for Nothing":

Wow, just wow, the new Miles Okazaki's "Trickster" album dropped today. The whole "Trickster" series is very good, but this goes further.

The Sun Died from Ellery Eskelin was on my list for about 20 years and I finally got it recently. It's excellent, as anticipated. It's from the 90s NYC jazz scene with its great punk visceral energy. Marc Ribot on guitar as usual does staller work. Here's a few favorite tracks.
