I live in Norway. Local dealers have Dynamat, but only big bulks. I wont pay 100 bucks for dynamat... :D

    I can get this:
    https://gyazo.com/96d7ce046dce746d964457016cd5c404
Its same material as dynamat it seems like, butyl and aluminium. 2mm thickness

Damplifier Pro is apparently better. That said, if you're really stuck, Amazon UK have Dynamat.

Edit: I seem to have a fair bit of Dynamat left- do you want some of mine?

I can´t lie - despite having a HD 800 S it´s the 650 that gets most of the head time (for music). Not a fan of the concept of "musicality" or "PRAT", but these have it in spades. It seems likely the flagship will be delegated to gaming duty/certain genres or eventually sold.

These may not be the most advanced driver tech anymore, but to my ears the tuning is still second to none.

I've searched around on the internet occasionally looking for this information. I have had no luck.

Sennheiser has never done headphones like the HD580/HD600/HD650 before or since, AFAIK. Anyone know what the story behind this family of headphones is?

I also really like my HD650 and it's really great for its price but it is nowhere near the HD800. The bass/subbass of the HD650 is very imprecise and overall it is very congested and veiled in comparison with the HD800.

I fully agree that it´s technically far superior, but I don´t know, HD 650 just draws me into the music way more than either HD 800. It´s simply more enjoyable. It´s a cliche, but the music feels better and I feel better listening to it than to the flagship.

If the HD 650 is veiled I don't want to be unveiled.

I feel the 650 is veiled, coming off of the 600.. once the brain burns in they're wonderful though.

It's a glass half-full, half-empty scenario. If you set the volume to the upper-mids with an appropriate amp, there is no veil. As I stated earlier, coming from DT 880 and HE-560, the HD 650 did not leave me wanting in terms of treble. If anything, I heard more extension in the top octave. DT 880 masks that region with the 6-8 kHz peak, and the HE-560 kind of drops off a cliff after 10 kHz, which shows up on measurements.

The best strategy is to not listen to other headphones and switch to speakers instead.

@SSL, have you modded or do you plan to mod your HD650, KISS or otherwise?

No plans at the moment, I quite like the sound stock. If that changes I'll pick up another pair used or from a future 6XX drop.

I think its time for you to try the KISS mod or similar mods. it really removes that veil. the bass however is indeed not as good as the hd800
I have a stock hd650 and a modded 650 here, and the improvement of the mods are really worth it!

I have coin mod, foam/spider removal and dynamat mod on my HD650 and a bit of sub-bass EQ. The bass is still imprecise and overall it's a bit veiled. Even a Beyerdynaimc dt-880 which I compared to the modded HD650 is not as vailed and imprecise of the HD650. I still prefer the HD650 for it's dark and smooth sounding but if one is not as sensitive in the highs there may be better options than the HD650 for the price (beyer or akg).

What do you mean by veil? What's your system?

I mean they don't sound clear, detailed and precise enough. I don't think anyone will deny that. I use the Centrance Hifi-m8 with the 650

Are you sure you aren't just used to bright headphones?

Coming from my DT 880 and HD 800 S I don't hear this veil, though I am using my bright, grainy, Sabre-shit DAC2 as a DAC and headphone amp.

I always loved Audeze Headphones which are known for rather dark and smooth sound like the 650, but they remain details and clarity more than the 650. I don't like bright headphones, that's why I use the 650 but I'm stilling missing something. it is good, but surely not my endgame headphone :)

Get rid of it. You have no idea what the HD650 can be capable of.
