D/S Bifrost might still appeal to those who aren't comfortable with leaving their gear powered up 24/7, since it doesn't seem to have the same warm-up "requirement"

I remember Jason or someone from schiit saying that there will never be multibit modi, so what the f**k is going on.

I think he said one product announcement on Monday. Doesn't mean there won't be more announcements not too long after.

You should read some of Jason's chapters of his story of the company. Quite frequently Schiit makes business decisions that confound conventional business thinking and have done very well doing so.

Personally I think this will be huge. Tons of people want to try R2R sound but don't have the budget for a Bifrost Multibit. This gets their toes in the water without breaking the budget and makes them believers. And when they want to upgrade, do you think it will be back to a D/S DAC? Most likely not. Who has the best and most affordable R2R upgrade path? Why Schiit does, of course!

I already own a Bifrost Multibit and I'm considering one of these.

Playing devils advocate here... If the multibit modi is real what chip are they going to use and how is it going to be implemented?

AD5547CRUZ from Bifrost is 20USD in quantity + the SHARC DSP you need to implement the filter + the board and all the other associated parts. No way you can stick that in a $100 or even $200 product and make a profit.

The "leaked" images of a Modibit notwithstanding, I'm still holding out hope for an Asgard 3. I just demoed the Asgard 2 and, while it wasn't quite where I needed it to be for me to keep it in my system, I think that a new iteration could be tremendous. Just some wishful thinking on my part.

Because Schiit believes that multibit is truly superior to DS. The only reason they offer DS products is because of value. If they can get the cost down, expect multibit to completely replace DS in their product line.

Also, the Bifrost is upgradeable. That's the most marketable thing about the product over the Modi. There's still a lot of room for improvement in the USB section, multibit analog section, etc.

SHARC DSP should be around $10 when bought in bulk. With the predicted cost at $200, I think that's a fair price for everyone.

I'm sure Schiit knows what they're doing, but yes, I agree with everyone who's pointed out that this puts the Bifrost 4490 at an awkward place. Especially, with the Gungnir DS being out of stock too, it may be very plausible that Schiit will phase out the Delta Sigma DACs and go for Multibit sales only.

Whoa... How did this leak? Did someone run a spider / traverse the Schiit.com site?
