I'm really hoping that Vidar compares with the Vincent. If Jason can bring this level of performance for $700, then game fucking over for the 2 ch playing field.

Switching back and forth between the vintage Parasound and Vincent. Vincent is clearly superior, it is even more resolving when I'm listening to vinyl. This is ludicrous!

Completed my vintage Parasound trinity stack with r2rDAC/preamp/amp. With speakers and Orbit TT, everything came out to be $1500. Took about a year of patiently buying and selling gear to get to where I am, but it paid off. More details on my profile.

CAUTION: if an old flame puts out right away after you reunite, make sure it doesn't have serious debt problems or a crazy recent ex. It sounds like you have a good handle on things, but old flames can still burn.

I don't have any other experiences with other pres, but this little fella works great; hardly any channel imbalances, no distortion. I'm sure I'll learn to appreciate it even more if I ever listen to other pres.

Damn right. I prefer it to the Rag and Valhalla 2 for pre duty. Only thing I would prefer is a bit more play on the dial, but then again it is $50. =P Having tried a couple of different power amps with it, I think it's more transparent than those other two I mentioned.

@spwath I've been following Jason's posts on both HF and SBAF like a hawk. He mentioned that it'll be over $500. I have no doubt that it'll punch well above whatever they price it at. That isn't to say there'll be cheaper options in the future. Needless to say, the 2 channel world is well overdue for a good shakeup.

haha, let's see. I've sold the Asgard 2, Bifrost 4490, Bottlehead Mainline. The Modi Vali is what I always go back to, it's the girl next door who always makes you feel at home. Don't get me wrong, the higher end stuff wins in excitement and sounds phenomenal, but performance:price ratio doesn't come close to the Modi Vali.

Yes, it's diminishing returns, but it's nice to see that the "budget stuff" can still kick some serious ass. I'm not one to hoard gear, so I like to free up equipment before I make purchases. And I'm all about value, getting the most bang for my buck. Right now, the Modi is simply killing it on some speakers, and I'm second guessing myself about buying a Mimby.

To me, Katy Lied, The Royal Scam, and Aja are the pinnacle of their work. Countdown to Ecstasy and Two Against Nature are also superb. Pretzel Logic and Gaucho are both very good but a little uneven. Their debut album, Can't Buy A Thrill, isn't worth your time outside of the single "Do It Again" which can be heard easily by turning on virtually any classic rock station.
