The problem for me is that the shipping costs more than the actual service. I'd ship them off in a heartbeat if it wasn't so expensive.

Fuckin' A, man. Nova is pretty cool. A+ is a mediocre player at best; I prefer iTunes way more, but I like the plug in. At one time I was able to get Sound Siphon to work, but while it works with my NAD D3020, I cannot get it work with either of my real DACs. I will have to try Sonarwork and see if I can replicate the EQ in Nova.

I contacted Sonarworks recently about sending in a set of headphones for custom measurement, as they don't have any of mine, and asked them if there'd be a discount since I'd be contributing models they don't have listed to their potential product list. They told me that that actually isn't how they get their products for their profiles and that their in-house process for measuring and adding a headphone to the purchasable profiles list is "much more complicated".

So I'm not sure what they do or if it's something like 22 users need to submit headphones for custom measurements until they have a large enough data pool to make it to the limits of 1 standard deviation or something, but apparently it's not that simple and you're not essentially "paying them to add to their own product list". What you're paying for is a custom, No Limits profile, for your very own headphones. And the shipping back and forth does suck. I'm still trying to figure out a way to lower the costs of it because I want to send in a pair of HiFiMAN HE-6, HE-1000, Pioneer SE Master 1, JVC HP-DX1000, and my own pair of HD800 with SuperDupont Resonator + SBAF mods.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I thought my new HD800 would be used alongside my trusty HD600 depending on the music, but I don't feel the need to touch my HD600 anymore.

The only thing I need to figure out is how to get this system-wide implementation of it to stop glitching occasionally. I'm currently using PedalBoard2 as suggested by Sonarworks.

We get LCD-3's, LCD-X's and HD800's going through the lab every month. As for increasing our sales, sure - we'll add the data from the measurement to our database, but I can't see the HE-1K being added any time soon to the average profile library. You also will get a calibration file to get +/-0.9dB accuracy from your headphones. It's pretty much the same like calibrating a measurement mic or a colour critical monitor.

sonarworks looks interesting. is that like software type eq plugin? can it be used independently or is it integrated naturally into a specific player? been years since i got back into computer audio so some brain cells died and forgot things. slowly been getting back into it and slowly brought back my foobar 2000 and asio plugins. have you ever tried using an external speaker processor like from rane, ashly or dbx using active peq filters instead? i would of probably did that myself since i tend to like using external processors for eq'ing small bits here and there.

Commercial software EQ. You can try a demo and there are usually discount codes available to save a few bucks! If you remember rudewolf? He works for them!

I am not one to normally use an EQ but thought I would give this a try since my headphones were listed (LCD-X)...

Needless to say, I am now a believer... Man my LCD-X's have never sounded better!

A few questions about Sonarworks and the HD800, before I try the demo... I'm new to trying any kind of DSP

-Can I use it with streamers like Spotify or Tidal? Or does it have to be my own music files exclusively?

-My HD800 is modded (SD and cork) would it actually be more ideal to unmod it when using the HD800 profiles?

-The price right now for just the software is $99, but it says "save $40". Is there a sale right now or is it always $99?

    Thanks!

I don't think that this EQ works "systemwide" but I could be wrong. Just using it with jriver in my system.

To get the best result you'll need to pull out any mods to the hd800.

$99 has been the going rate for some time. I haven't seen it change.

It doesn't, but I use Audio Hijack to make it work system-wide.

You know, I've come to really like the SuperDupont + SBAF mods with Sonarworks turned down to 40-50%. I think it's best of all worlds.

To use it system-wide via JRiver, see https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WDM_Driver . There may be noticeable de-sync and/or latency.

it can work system wide on Macs with the free version of Sound Siphon 2. Not trivial to set up, but possible.

So Sonarworks is just a EQ program with ready made presets for specific headphones?
    Is that all it is?
