Strange that they haven't published that, you'd think that would be one of the basic specs to release.

Thanks for the inputs guys! The DAP market is pretty crowded and making choice is quite hard. I also like the promotion price of the LP3 but buying an unknown product from a small company likes L&P is (for me) quite risky. 300$ is relatively large amount of money with me so I value reliability and ease to repair in case there are something wrong.
Don't know if I left out some potential candidates from Cayin or Shanling?

Love the specs and whatnot of the LP3, I just wish that it had swipping/scrolling capability. The thought of touch tapping through long lists makes me cringe.

Hi guys, I need some advice on my current rig (cambridge audio dacmagic -> violectric v200 -> hd650). I love it when listening to everything with only a few, clearly separated instruments/voices (in my case mainly jazz, but also chamber, and some rock in particular when unplugged). But when listening to symphonic music, pop, metal things often become a bit convulated, i.e., less transparent than I feel it should be. I was wondering whether there is an obvious weak link in my chain or whether I just reached the potential of my gear... What do you guys think?

If you have not already done so, consider doing the Purrin mod on the 650s. My friend did it to his and the headphones were transformed in the mids, more forward and more resolving.

See how you like your 650s after the mod, then you might look at changing the amp and dac.

Mod the HD650. see if you're happy. If not, sell the dacmagic and v200, pick up a GOV2, make a 4pin TRRS cable for HD650 and run it balanced out of the v2. It's a disturbingly good setup.

dammit, you beat me to it- was going to suggest the same config.
run with the GOV2 balanced until you have 50x the $ to spend on a desktop/room rig.

Thanks, bixby and zerodeefex, just to be sure: you mean this mod? http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...r-hd650-love-appreciation-thread.44/#post-446 ? I didn't think about modding before, I guess I am a bit scared about making irreversible changes... But then from purrin's experience it might be precisely what I am looking for... Got to think about this one. Do many people here apply mods to their hd650s ?

wow, you guys really think the GOV2 would be better than the CA dacmagic -> violectric? I know price isn't necessarily a good proxy for quality and also the v200 is probably not the best value for money (though it gets some praise from headfonia and over at hf for whatever that means), but this sounds almost too good to be true (I'd be happy to sell my current gear though, if it is... ;)

Do dynamat only first and see if you like the mod. Maybe spend time in the thread teasing out which things you want to commit to.

And yes, the GOV2 via balanced out is a really good pairing with the HD6XX headphones. I use mine a lot while I'm working at home if I don't want to go upstairs to my rig in the office. It's super simple and works well.

Keep reading good things about the 4490 Bifrost... But wondering if I should wait for the Schiit's new release (per OC meet thread). I currently have no amp/DAC and am waiting on a pair of TH-X00. Any idea on when we'll see the new reDACted?

Are you happy with them straight out of your phone or computer? If not, just buy the best choice in your price range. No one had a release date for any speculative future product launches. That's not how schiit works.

I have been planning to get a Gungnir Multibit, but I'm currently using a MacBook Air as my source and it's also my main computer, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to get a Bifrost Multibit instead and a Mac Mini and run that as my source, with no other functions but music playback/server. Does that seem like a more beneficial strategy than continuing to use the MacBook Air and getting a Gungnir Multibit? I currently have a Vali 2 and have a BW on order, so I wouldn't have any balanced amps.

I've been using a 2015 macbook pro straight into a Gungnir Multibit, or via a decrapifier, and both sound good to me!

I currently have a Geek Out V2. I could get the Mac Mini first and pocket the rest to put towards a Gungnir Multibit later.

Terrible idea. Use your macbook and the Gungnir Multibit with a wyrd.

If later on down the line you have money burning a hole in your pocket, a cheap NUC sized machine + daphile will be cheaper and Linux + mpd = better than anything you'll get out of an OSX machine.

I've already got a regen coming, so no wyrd needed. I'll have to look into Linux options, I'll admit that wasn't on my radar.

This is all a waste of money. Get the best transducer you can afford in your budget. Then worry about the right DAC and amplification. Everything else is minor at best and you can think about it when audiophile nervosa sets in.

Also, the regen makes everything sound worse on Gungnir Multibit and Yggdrasil in my experience, especially on speakers. On Yggdrasil I find no difference with Wyrd. I will say, I didn't expect it but I found a little bit of improvement with the wyrd and Gungnir Multibit's older USB interface.

If you could build your own pc, you'll be getting the best price/performance ratio. And the best thing is that you can build a Hackintosh if you want an OSX, or have dual OS like Windows + OSX/Linus. You have many options if you go that route. You get the freedom to customize it the way you want to.

It's much cheaper and it's also a fulfilling project to undertake.
