I can tell you from experience 7.3x upsampling is the sweet spot! I’m sure that’s what Schiit will use for their Yggdrasilius Maximus + ;)

It's actually 6.28318530718x, but don't tell anyone due to alignment with the Schumann resonance and zero point energy divided by the square of the ratio of angles found in the 1947 Roswell crash...oh crap I just told you! Damn!

Kinda unrelated, but I remember when I first learned about measuring things in radians. Just so elegant.

I guess it’s obvious even too controversial to even mention here. Apologies for even bringing it up.

I spent many years teaching trigonometry. Most kids just roll their eyes at radians, but there's a few where it's like you can see the lightbulb go off and my teacher brain celebrates just a little.

Very much looking forward to your impressions. Especially compared to A2 and LIM and where MIB falls on the plankton/grit scale. I was someone who agreed with you about the LIM sounding too "clean" compared to the other high end Schiit DACs.

    Cross-post from my Head-fi account:

Quick update between Yggdrasil+ MIB and BF2 OG

As I get more familiar with the MIB, I can certainly point out certain things:

    1) Harmonic Richness or overtones of the OG BF2: MIB definitely has less of this trait. Some people call this "grit" or "grunge". What BF2 lacks though is the more microscopic textural retrieval of the MIB where vocals and cello are more accurate to the source rather than having this extra richness/creaminess that make Schiit sound fun. MIB is definitely the most "studio" tonality Schiit has ever made. However, unlike the pro audio gears with just pure macrodetail focused, MIB is more microdetail focused while BF2 is less microdetail focused and more macrodetail focused with the right dose of grit so that you get your head banging!

    2) Liquid smooth transients: BF2 OG has a rougher transient response which can be aggravating on poorly mastered tracks. MIB however has very accurate timing in the transients but without the Chord sound coloration (doesn't lean to "electronic sound" or a wall of fast incisive transients of Chord Hugo 2 or Hugo 1 TT or in other direction, a softer leading edge of Qutest). Instead, MIB delivers a thicker note density that negates this effect thus sounding more dreamy rather than ethereal so it actually sounds liquid smooth without being soft or hard! Don't confuse this with lush sound since MIB certainly doesn't have enough harmonic richness to produce a lush sound. This liquid smooth transients is a unique trait of this Yggdrasil+ flavor for sure

    3) Presentation: BF2 OG puts you a bit more rows in the audience than MIB. MIB puts you in the front row but not too forward that you're next to the band. There's still that presentation where both DACs present music more lateral than being wide with MIB while BF2 has less lateral depth but it's perceived as having deeper than MIB due to MIB's forward presentation. MIB won't showcase its wider depth than BF2 unless the recording calls for it while BF2 tends to showcase this depth a bit more obvious. MIB still stays true to its accurate sound presentation IMHO.

Overall difference between the two: don't expect a night and day difference. BF2 OG or 2/64 is that good that I consider it as a kilobuck DAC gatekeeper and what you get with MIB if I put it in one phrase: "refinement over fun"

Damn....that tldr....i was hoping for something like the A1 incisiveness, cause i felt while the A2 slammed, it felt like blunted like a snorlax body slam rather than a intense swift sneak attack from a martial arts pokemon. Refinement, usually points to less engagement :(. looking forward to more impressions.

I haven't compared A1 and BF2 OG, but yes BF2 OG slams like truck while MIB hits at a sharper pace with more texture and microdetails. MIB macrodynamics does not lean towards raw slam that but rather slighlty present liquidity of the dynamics after the initial attack.I wouldn't call it rounded but in-between rounded and sharpish slam. I simply put it as refinement and liquidity in transients.

This is evident in the Come Together Beatles track

Referencing Marv's table, I'd say I generally perceive that sound trait of the MIB in the Macro and Microdynamics department

Refinement in this case means more nuanced. BF2OG is a blunt instrument. It simplifies music. LIM was refinement over the BF2OG, overall darker, and just bit less heavy in the sub/low bass. Think $350 violin vs $3000 violin. Given a sufficiently skilled musician, the starter violin is going to have limits with respect to expressiveness. Put on some well recorded classical, horns or strings, and the difference becomes stark between BF2OG > LIM > MIB.

Despite having a bassy and warm tonal signature, BF2OG is actually more grainy and less fluid than A1/GS (fully warmed up). Another aspect of refinement.

With respect to MIB, it's hardly Snorlax. If I wanted Snorlax, I would have gotten an Abbas DAC. Yes, I get that Snorlax part with the A2/OG, especially from the lower mids and down. The MIB is nothing like that at all. Compared to the MIB, the A2/OG is disjointed with highs a bit too incisive and mid/lows quite syrupy and thick. The MIB has highs a tick less incisive as the A1/GS or A2/OG highs, but they applied consistently throughout the entire band. For sure the MIB is less thick, has better separation, articulation, much more clarity than A2/OG in the lows. Similar transients to the A1/GS in the lows, but with greater tone density to the A1/GS.

The MIB is definitely Schiit's most neutral DAC in respect to tonal signature and transient response. I'd even venture MIB is neutral compared to the overall universe of DACs. There's just a touch of that old-school R2R density. Transients are a nick on the zippier side. Think of the MIB as an A1/GS but with calmer highs and dash of denser lows/mids, but with the tradeoff of a small reduction in liveliness and incisiveness.

That description matches fairly well what I hear from HQP with the right filter+modulator to DSD 256>Holo (May especially), and why I eventually sold my A2 which had been upgraded from an A1. I may have to get a MIB to check :D

    https://audio-head.com/schiit-audio-updates-their-flagship-yggdrasil-dac-updated/

“Yggdrasil+ MIB is available now at schiit.com for $2599 in black, $2699 in silver. Yggdrasil+ MIB upgrade cards are expected to be available in 4 weeks for $800.

I think this brings it pretty close to OG upgrade at $850, which kinda makes sense. For those who got MIB already, are the analog bits all discreet or still driven by OP AMPs?

Can I just ask the stupid question - as of today, would a MIB purchased from Schiit be this "improved and fixed version" or the "original one" that mentioned above that was disliked in the comparison?

If so, is this "fixed" version going to be normal production for the time being and foreseeable future (let's exclude possible minor revisions, minor production variation such as component swaps, etc).
