I don’t find Freya+ to be particularly warm and definitely not romantic at all, although tubes will of course dictate this to a degree. The JJ tubes that it typically comes with are actually a bit incisive and fairly neutral tonally. Gungnir Multibit A1 however is definitely on the warm side.
Yeah, that is my understanding of the Freya+ as well...BUT, it is certainly going to be warmer with some tube rolling than my Akitika PR-102 which is so neutral/transparent I could not blind distinguish from passive.
Gotcha. Freya+ is more incisive sounding than passive, in a good way though IMO and far more engaging. The tube bloom and the wide open staging however is what will get you. I love it, love it.
@rlow Love to hear that as that is exactly what I am hoping for from the Freya+ with this nearfield setup. DAC2541 just did not stage correctly with my speakers. Mainly grabbed the Freya+ just because I need BAL-SE conversion for the Gungnir Multibit A1, but tube buffer is a bonus for sure.
@shredical Yeah the DAC 2541 was great with Auteur/SW51+...but it REALLY did not play nicely with my speakers. Guy in Seattle wasn't willing to budge on price, but scored the Freya+ with some NOS tubes via USAM and the Gungnir Multibit A1 from a buddy that had a spare.
