Desipite my anti-MQA credentials being nearly impeccable, I have justified keeping Tidal for electronica library superiority over Quobuz up until now. I am seriously reconsidering however.
@crenca Same reason I didn’t renew after the month trial. The music I did put into a playlist had a much blacker background. I’m hoping Spotify’s HD service finally comes this year.
I have cancelled mine for now too during my 3-month free Qobuz trial. Have noticed some definite holes in their library so far - as @crenca says, electronica (plus related like ambient, etc.) seems to be the main problem area. Figure that if the gaps are too much then I can just reactivate Tidal in 3 months and I will have given £60 less to those MQA pushing mofos that I will spend on music.
also @rlow your issue is that Qobuz is not available in Canada right? If so, I could open an account from Turkey whilst connected via VPN to a UK server. Now it's set up it doesn't seem to care whether I connect via VPN or not, despite Turkey not being on their list of countries. Maybe this was allowed because my Paypal account is registered in the UK, but they never asked for billing address info...
Yeah, the catalogue. For electronic and non-mainstream music genres Tidal is better. That's why I didn't switch to Qobuz earlier. I took the step now after reading up on MQA once again. I just cannot support that crap.
If you miss certain music on Qobuz, there's an online form where you can request them to get it. Just ask the support for it. I just requested two missing NIN albums today, I am very curious if and when they will appear in the Qobuz catalogue. Spotify HD is not an option for me because of Roon.
Had no idea about the Qobuz music request thing, thanks for the tip! It's a great concept, but like you say how/if it works in practice is another question
After the cancellation of the subscription Tidal offers me 14,99 € for 12 months instead of 19,99 €. So if anyone wants to save some money, might be worth the try ;)
