I mean, is being grumpy, hating "consumerism", and retreating to the purchasing vigor/value beliefs of your prior peak earning days what I get to look forward when I start suckling at the teat of my retirement savings?
It’s his I’m holier than thou because I can bring a dead item back to nostalgic life and you can do the same if you follow the life of the righteous! Repent now!

Some just hate consumerism and the endless cycle of new products to consume. I have many pieces of vintage TOL gear, but you have to be patient. It’s like hunting. And it’s not for everybody. A bunch of stuff actually sucks compared to today.
I'm just as cheap (and grumpy) now as I was before retirement. The main difference is the increasing speed at which 'vintage' gear gets younger and new music gets more mystifying.
I was lucky enough to be able to retire with a decent pension in my early 50s. I can live happily ever after on that, but I'm also young enough I don't mind doing some part time contract work from time to time to contribute to my toy budget. Totally different world when you don't really HAVE TO work, and can do so strictly on your own terms.
