Okay, it was 400 years ago,but still. Check out Early Music concerts in your area, some real cool shit going down. In NYC, Gotham Early Music Society is great, beautiful live music all the tyme.
@Boops Between GEMS, World Music Institute, Robert Browning Associates (former head of WMI), plus a little Lincoln center/carnegnie hall/symphony space and my mostly classical and world art music live music needs are met. Oh, and Amor Artiste is a semi pro choir that does some new year's Bach plus a few other concerts a year.
It feels shorter than *that*. Given: Bach is, say, my grandfather's generation. So I'm born ~1745. Now, it's 1790. Byrd wrote his Mass for Four Voices in 1592/93, which was only 200 years ago. All right, so I'm 200 years early for his 400th anniversary. Or—don't say it!—200 years late for his 200th.
