For those afraid for my safety and sanity, the Puritan 156 has the option to safely add a grounding rod via the groundmaster device they sell. I figured why not, cheap tweak and easy to install from my system. Enjoying what I am hearing.
@Gazny lol already thinking about it. Just started with 4ft one I could snag from amazon. Thinking I gotta head to Home Depot and try out a 8ft. Purtian interestingly recommends doing multiple in series. Also there are some soil additives that can apparently help. I imagine a lot of that is microscopic percentage improvement stuff.
I heard if you bury a grounding rod 25 feet deep your audio quality improves 25 percent minimum. I haven't tried it myself so it's just hearsay at this point.
@Gazny also mountain-top fire-lookout towers. Arriving at one with lightning conductors knocked off the roof, the first thing we did was re-erect them and make sure they had good conduction to the surrounding steel mesh. Lucky timing, because a couple of days later we got hit twice.
@Biodegraded ive always wanted to stay in one for a few days, but they get booked up insanely fast. Somewhere I have the official plans in PDF from from the US forestry service on constructing multiple versions
The whole nec code makes my brain hurt, but what I can comprehend is that a separate ground may allow the equipment to become energized if nearby lightning strike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg4wBI7bWgI
