My CDs are all ripped and then go to storage. Only want to keep vinyl as physical media in the house. Oddly, the only SACD capable transport I've owned was a PS/3. And I never used that for audio.
I have about 200 CDs that I won't part with, and probably 10 or so SACDs, most of them hybrids. I purposefully tried to track down a player that didn't convert the DSD to PCM at any point during the analog conversion so I could have an alternative sound. Plus I just like the options.
For me it's just about space and having content in multiple homes. The CDs get ripped, then stored. Vinyl doesn't really work that way for me. Which means duplicates.
And yes, playing records starts, and ends, a lot like DSD ... but the bit in the middle ... the "music" ... is a lot more enjoyable with the big, black, plastic discs.
I understand, and in reality I could sell my remaining CDs and not lose any of the content, but while I've had the opportunity many times I've always chosen to keep these ones, so I figured I might as well get something to play them on. Vinyl is my main focus at this point.
